I don't see much 200 series here, any particular reason?

Is there something out there that rivals the LC in terms of capability and reliability? I know there aren't tons of them in the US in general, but I would think a forum like this would have most 200's posting up.

Thoughts?

I suppose it would have to do with the 200's price range, which would be the same reason why there aren't tons of them in the states.

You can build an equally capable, rand new Tacoma or 4runner for much, much less..

I think they're incredible vehicles. Stunning once built, but they're simply too expensive.

Lots of 200 folks over on Mud.

The older ones are now getting more affordable and guys like me are finally buying them and will start building them up.

'08-10s with 100-150k are now in the $25-30k range.

Crazy to think 10 year old vehicles are really in their prime. I wish Toyota would give them LC a good refresh. Obviously, wish they were more affordable new as well.

I have a built 200 but rarely post over here because, well, there just isn't much 200 action on this board like you point out. Mud has a very good and active 200 board though, so if you're curious definitively check it out.

I have a 200 as well, but hang out over on Mud. I come here for general overloading and equipment discussion.

(I'm still curious why the 200 Registry doesn't warrant a sticky. :sombrero:)

I have a 100 and a new 200. MUD is far more the enthusiast board.

As above, I hang here to talk about using the vehicles (off roading, trips etc)

Didn't know you got a 200?! Can we be watching the website for updates and mods to it? What's in your plan?

The US 200 production numbers are very low. Since the 200 debuted in '08, there has not been a year with more than 3,801 units sold. Several years less than 3k, some even less than 2k. When you factor in the majority that will never see more than pavement, I'm actually surprised how many folks here and Mud have at least posted, if not put on exceptional builds. That in and of itself is even more impressive because suspension, bumpers, and the various accouterments for the 200 are NOT cheap.

To answer the original question: I don't think there's anything out there that was specifically designed with a 25 year service life in mind. In a day and age where people get bored with cars and trade them in quickly for the latest and greatest, there isn't a lot of appeal to pay a premium for something that "should" last 200k+ and decades by design with the tradeoff being a few less bells and whistles. If reliability ONLY was the consumer mentality, Land Rover would be out of business. It's also one of the few vehicles that besides adding an AT tire really require little or no modification to keep up with it's fully "built" cousins.

Disclaimer: I have a 200, and I'm a 100% biased.

Is there a website that lists LC production numbers over the years? Would be curious to see the decline in numbers since the 100 series. There were 10 years of 100 sales and now 10 years of 200 series sales.

Look at My Sig link for 200 mods... SO far slow as my daily driver but sliders, suspension, wheels and tires and a few other bits are coming soon.

My guess would be that since they only sold something like 9 or 10 thousand of them total between 2008 and 2011, and those are the prime years for "building" and customizing, as they are in the more affordable price range, and out of warranty, there just aren't that many running around. As others have said, Mud is relatively active.

Calendar year United States
2000 15,509
2001 7,591
2002 6,752
2003 6,671
2004 6,778
2005 4,870
2006 3,376
2007 3,251
2008 3,801
2009 2,261
2010 1,807
2011 1,662
2012 2,895
2013 3,082
2014 3,158
2015 2,687
2016 3,705

This is from wiki, but looks right except for 2000. Some years like '07 have numbers that I'm guessing are a combo from previous model years because I'm not entirely sure there's a 2007 and 2012 that was sold as a model year here in the states.
