I Leaked All Over Colorado's Face!

Wow, great trip report and photos. Looks like an outstanding trip. Thanks for sharing.

I love the picture of your Boxer flying through camp. My bowser does the same thing when she gets fired up. We also have the same cooling vest that your dog was wearing a couple of the photos. For our dog being black and living in the desert it really helps keep her be more comfortable in the heat.

Glad folks are enjoying it.

I have a few more photos of her releasing energy. She does that well... run circles for 15 minutes then chilled out the rest of the day! Love it. She did have another burst of energy while at Horsehoe lake. She would run and then do the cerval hop into the bushes and then disappear. Even standing 26" tall, she would vanish. Then boing jump back out. Hilarious. But, some tree hugger would probably disagree and chew me out because we crushed the last wildflower or something.

As for the vest. We forgot to put it on her when it mattered most and made her sick... bad mommy and daddy. I did sacrifice my bottle of water to cool her off.......and carrier her out on my shoulders.... but that is much later.

Day 3: Westcliff to Canon City

Via dirt, of course. Whats the name of it? Copper something Rd.

We were going to drive over the Royal Gorge Bridge.... but at 30 bucks per person my wife even said.... "heeellllll no". Oh, but the park closes in 30 minutes, there is a discount, $22 per person. Ummm no. U-Turn.

Explore a little dirt road in the area...

This Wal-mart has a view.

Time to find a campsite.... not much really interesting in the area. I wanted to head towards Cripple Creek via the Shelf Road. So, a quick stop at Wally World for some more drinks and supplies and then a stop at AutoZone for some Lucas powersteering leak stop. Leak stop = molasses. Power steering fluid = baby oil.

So, we first try Red Rock Canyon... I think?
Didnt find anything suitable.... but check out what we did find...

Finally found a suitable site at the "Sand Gulch. BLM land that is popular amongst rock climbers. Cheap camping too, $4.00 for 3 days.

Whatdaya know.... thats day 3

What was the problem with the powersteering?

The power steering gear boxes on these trucks are known for leaking and eventually going out. In my case, the truck had been seeping since I bought it. I'd feed it a bit of ATF every other week and make sure it was topped off before hitting the road somewhere. Well, with the sand driving and the climb up Hermitt Pass with bowling ball rocks everywhere.... it finally blew. About a quart each day!:Wow1: Replaced as soon as I had the part and time/place to. I like the new gear box more anyways. Different gear ratio, fewer rotations of the steering wheel to get to full turn, and it feels more new car like.

Day 4: You mean the dude's going to work on his trip report?

Sorry guys. Life has been busy. But now I am unemployed and using the time I should be using to job hunt to work on the report... :)

So we were at the Sand Gulch if I recall correctly and after waking up a little later than we had been, we took our time to get up and about. After breakfast and my wife washing her hair in a pot.... quite the amazing feat, actually, well worth of its own thread... we took a hike on the trail with the most interesting name... sorry I do not remember what it was. It was also the closest to our campsite.

And just an FYI, we do not baby our daughter on hikes. If its a dangerous place, yes... but she has to make her own way on the trail!

I hope you got one for the dog too! ;)

Great report, and sorry about the job.

Yep, we tried to include her in all of our meals. She really isnt as skinny as she looks in those pics (and that goes for me too!).

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the report... and no worries, my wife was promoted to "Sugar Momma" and I quit the job (for reasons that had been bothering me for a long time).:ylsmoke:

Day 4: Continued

Because we were in an excellent place to do some rock climbing I couldn't pass up the opportunity to at least do a bit of bouldering... since I didn't have any gear nor the money to fix any boo-boos.

Climbed this big crack.

I also had some cactus stuck in my leg. Who would have known that birds make nests out of cactus needles? (in the crack)

Pupster even had a run in with a cactus.
