I love my jeep.

So for year or so my jeep has been getting just a little hot (215F) in the woods. On really hot days it would cause the jeep to vapor lock. If I poored water down over the fuel rail, it would fire right up. The radiator was new, So I tried the following:

• 
  rerouted the fuel lines

• 
  replaced the rubber lines with steel

• 
  moved the fuel pump

• 
  replaced the fan

• 
  new fan shroud

• 
  new O2 sensor

All to no avail, well last weekend I was laying at just the right angle,under the jeep and saw my head pipe was kinked on the back side, out of sight. $34 dollars for a new head pipe and now I am cool as a cucumber The pipe was kinked almost shut but you could not tell Anyone have any other fun stories?

I just burned through three fuel pumps in three weeks. It turned out to be a hole in the fuel line between the pump and the sender unit so the pump was working flat out to maintain pressure and failed quickly. Of course the first two mechanics didn't work that out.

I've had three jeeps. i've had all these jeeps in the last year.

First- 2007 Commander (2.5 yrs. ownership)- front end suspension noises and diff noises that never did go away. the transmission sounded like it was going to die before i sold it and i think the viscous coupler was starting to die in the t-case.

Second-1978 Wagoneer (3 months ownership)- completely rebuilt the motor and everything else. only had 72K original miles. about every 400 miles the fuel pump would die, and it would vapor lock whenever it felt like it. i sold it, got tired of fuel pumps. but i did make some good money selling it.

Third-1994 Grand Cherokee limited 5.2 V8 (current, 3 months now)- on its second radiator, thermostat, i have replaced every engine sensor, complete tune up, and now it finally runs again. oh yeah, just remembered everything else, fuel pump, exhaust system, fuel filter, air filter, intake gaskets replaced, valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, egr gaskets, vacuum lines, fuel pressure regulator, injector o-rings, throttle body cleaned and new gaskets. and mobile 1 oil to keep it going. i'm thinking about selling it, but i've pretty much fixed everything on it.

i think its time to go back to toyota.

Bought my '01 TJ with 43K miles on the clock. Replaced AC condenser and AC fan motor, new headlights, serpentine belt and air filter, 50K manual transmission maintenance, reworked front and rear brakes, new shocks and spark plugs, radiator flush and recharge, put new tires on it...Still have a small drip at the T-case, but other than that, it's paid for and rolls on.

Okay , you win, dropping the gas tank 3 times in a month is pretty bad.:Wow1: My fuel pump is external, so moving mine wasn't too bad.

Thanks, although I'm sure that there are better red herring stories out there...

If this fuel pump was external we probably wouldn't have experienced a failure; it would have just sprayed gas everywhere and we would have smelt it. That or we would have exploded!

Oh come on now. In the case of your last two Jeeps don't start with junk yard trucks and maybe you'll have better success.

My jeep flat out refuses to start some times. I turn the key and can hear the solenoid in the starter click but the starter doesn't turn the engine. Come to find out it is just a bad spot on the starter, so when it does that I put it in neutral and roll it a couple inches then kick it into drive or reverse and that is enough to move the starter off the bad spot and it fires right up after that.

Make the ZJ work. You've got time and money into it. You are going to know it like the back of your hand - always good in a vehicle you need to trust.
