Nice patina...
Thats the nice way of saying they look like *******.:)

Not sure on the plans for them yet. The M 116 tool trialer I have is so heavy, I am thinking the M 416's may be the smart way to go. Not sure yet.

It may work best to rent a sand blaster and try to get down to bare metal so you can see what lies behind the paint and rust. That way at least you'd have an idea as to what you really had.

I have a big sand blaster but I think it would take me all weekend to blast them down. I may see if I can get a package deal on all three trailers, getting sandblasted at same time. But I agree, who knows what is under all that paint. I do like how easy it is to move the M 416’s around compared to the M 116 that I have.

(just a cautionary note on sand blasting) I have read that the paint used by the military has a high level of toxins.

Depending on sheet metal thickness you can also get into trouble with warping the now more or less flat panels. This is the reason that hot rodders use other various blast media. Given the likely tenacity of military paint, might look into an acid dip instead.

Regardless, I think you scored and even though I've little need for one I'm still jealous. :)

If your trailers are painted with CARC paint, you need to learn how to properly remove it. If I recall correctly, rub a painted section with a laquer thinner soaked white rag. If little or no paint bleeds to the rag, you may have CARC paint.

You can learn more about your trailer at www.g503.com.
