IM1RU's VMI Trailer (now with Trimbren 3500HD suspension)

Alpine XL in the works

IM1RU -- We're about 4-8 weeks away from picking up our Alpine XL from VMI. Your thread has given me hope that after all this waiting and planning and waiting some more - there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm starting a new thread outlining our journey in finding this camper: what I hope will be the final stop in the search for the perfect camper. Our plan is to camp our way back east over 4-5 weeks -- via Canada -- if the weather co-operates. Of course - the whole point is: this baby should be impervious to weather!!

Congratulations FyrFly! You're gonna love it I'm sure. We both know you already think it's the perfect camper for you, or you wouldn't have gone through the process of getting one.;)

Just got back from a little one nighter. I did actually set up the awnings and take a photo, although we we in the trees so you can't really see it all. I''ll try to post up tonight. As for the tank, it's 25 GAL.

No issues. I'm working with them on getting a little bit better door seals. I've had very minor dust infiltration, but minor is the word.

The fabric is attached to the underside of the roof via velcro and screws. The bottom is glued and screwed to top of the trailer body and then again on the inside. Very nicely finished. There really isn't much room for water to pool up and it hasn't been any kind of problem.

Congrats on your Canyon.

IM1RU, congrats on your new Canyon. I'm scheduled to pick up my own Gen 2 in the summer of 2016. I live in the Four Corners area of CO and drove to Bellingham this past September to meet Mike and the guys at the shop, put down a deposit and now am waiting to return and haul that baby away on its first adventure. Can't wait! Keep enjoying and I'll be out there with you next year!

Thanks for the update. Dig the night shot with the awning deployed. Looks great! I came across your thread awhile back and decided this was the way to go so I sent my deposit in. Wish there was a support group for all of us on the VMI waiting list :)

Congratulations franklantern. The wait is tough, but worth it. Very unique trailers, the crowd gathering kind of unique. You're gonna love it.

Any idea how much yours weighs loaded up?

The trailer is 2370 according to Mike at the time of pick up. Add to that 25 gal. of water, 20 gal. gas, clothes (40 lbs.-ish), food maybe 60 lbs. Add to that some for variance and your looking at 2800 to 2900 lbs fully loaded with enough fuel, water and food to go a week and half, and drive 400 miles off road between resupply stops.
