Inflatable RTT?

It's insanely slow at work today, and I'm daydreaming a little bit.

I found [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Nemo-Equipment-Morpho-Long-Bladder/dp/B0018CUS6A/ref=pd_sim_sg_1]Airbeams[/ame]. The tent it's designed for is a little on the spendy side for what it is, but the bladders themselves are cheap.

I've been pondering the makings of a homemade RTT for a while now, and this strikes me as a seriously clean solution. Assuming you know somebody who can sew. :D

Just my humble opinion, but having had an air-supported rooftop tent on my EarthRoamer Jeep, I don't believe it's all beer and skittles. The tent got pretty floppy in a stiff wind; it's tough to see how you'd match the tension of a well-designed set of poles. Less predictably, it was very noisy in a wind, as there was enough looseness to the fabric to create a lot of flapping.

I'd be the last person to want to stifle a clever design, and, of course, a lot would depend on the tent's size--the EarthRoamer tent was huge--and materials. But sitting eight feet in the air, my air-supported tent wasn't enjoyable in even a moderately blustery wind. :(

That's ... not encouraging. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice of them to demo it on a no wind day. Look at the lake in the background not a ripple on it. Cool idea but lets see this in some wind like 30mph.
