This was pretty much my only option at this point, either this or make a really hoakie one out of drainage tubing. (which I have actually seen people do:Wow1
I may be able to trim it down an inch or two. Oh well, too late now!

I'm wondering if the snorkel for the third gen 4runners would work. Same side air box, similar roof height, etc. I'll measure Mr. Leary's snorkel tomorrow (99 4runner)

Nope. Monty fender flare has more angle then the 4runner.

Gotta love how we Montero owners, poorly suported by the after market, get innovative in doing what we can with what we've got. Sometimes I feel that we're the illegitimate offspring of a Martha Stewart, Macgyver one night stand.

You're snorkel intake hovering above the roof line doesn't look bad to me. Especially if you're considering a roof basket or roof lights that'll even out the profile.

The intake looks fine besides, if it isn't above the roofline then how are you supposed to submerge the vehicle entirely?

Maybe I am being a stickler... but generally the snorkel 'head' fits below the roof line. I know its not the one meant for this model, but I think its a bit awkward looking.

I think with the design of a Gen III snorkel it simply sits that high...

Notice Grasscat's Snorkel intake has a slight dark green tint behind the grill cover? It's a standard filter material for your HVAC unit that provides a decent level of filtration. I don't recall which one it is exactly but I will say it's great for stopping rain, bugs and other big things from getting into your intake.:smiley_drive: I finally replaced mine a couple of weeks ago after it finally collapsed inwards after nearly a year of use (guess it was finally too clogged up). I think I'm going to replace mine every 6 months. Easy to do when one big (20x18?) sheet is under $20.

I looked at a genIII monty with this snorkle. The calmp on the inlet is even with the upper windshiels moulding and the hrea sits just above the roof. It is ok. If you hit a big puddle at any kind of speed the water goes over the roof anyway, so why not have it as high as possible? The only thing that kinda bugs me is that when looking straight at the truck, the snorkle head is at a slight angle in relation to the roof line. No biggie. Im just jappy I am able to make it work.

I also enjoy making do and comming up with solutions that work out.
As for the inner connecting pipe to airbox interface, I have come up with a soultion. Have to wait to sat to do it though. If it works I'll post a how to for that.

I was goung to put some type of prefilter in the inlet to prevent bugs and the like from going in.

I think I'm going to try this same kit. How were you able to make the final connection to the air filter box? Any pictures? Anything you would do different?

On my 96 I used a piece of HVAC filter cut down to size. I was able to cut up a single filter sheet into numerous pre-filters. Fit's nicely behind the snorkel grill and is sandwiched between the grill and snorkel intake.
