Way back, there was a guy who caught some dude at his house with the missus one evening... he poured a coffee can full of cat feces and hot coffee down the dudes cowl/intake wherein it got into the heater core etc... pretty much NUKING that car forever. And then he called the dude out and ended up in jail.

Made the papers the next day :coffeedrink:

I add a little Isopropyl Alcohol to my -30 degree washer solution in the winter.

I switched to those "winter wipers" a few years ago (the ones with the rubber 'boot' that covers the entire wiper.) While it does help, if it's cold/icy/snowy enough you are going to get some buildup.

My Subaru supposedly had "heated wipers." I Think what that meant was that there was a heat strip along the base of the windshield that would warm up when the defroster was turned on to keep ice from forming on the wipers when they were not being used. Of course, if they're being used, then the wiper is not in contact with the heat strip long enough to melt the ice.

So basically I had a device that would keep the wipers from icing - unless I was actually using the wipers. So the wipers were ice-free, but only when I didn't need them. In any case it either didn't work or didn't work well, and in heavy snowstorms I still had to stop periodically to break off the ice.

The trick out here at the ski resorts (and has migrated into the city) is to flip your wipers out away from the windshield when you park. They'll still ice up a bit, but at least they don't freeze to the windshield making it difficult to scrape. I do it all winter long and I feel it helps.
