Look at the Storyteller Overland GXV HILT Adventure Truck Camper Expedition Vehicle in comparison to the rig I'm building. Opinions?

Install a 12V ground switch under the dash or in an empty switch blank and mis-label it, e.g. air compressor or black water dump.

Without this switch being in the correct position, the truck won't start because the starter or ignition switch will not get power.

Isuzu trucks are all 24V. That said, perhaps in the USA where they are running a petroleum engine, they've also converted the system to 12V; I don't know.

We have an American living next door, he was completely mystified the first time I had him in the truck. Manual transmission completely threw him. His father, visiting from the USA, was brought round to the truck to see a manual transmission in action, I really thought it was a joke, but he had never been in a manual vehicle before.

Does the US based Isuzu not have the anti theft key system?
If its a choice between hand over the keys to a theif or injury/death let em have it and let the insurance sort the problem later, a vehicle and things can be replaced, you and your loved ones not so much

Yes we would agree

However a new kind of criminal is aware that families traveling in these vehicles are carrying a greater amount of wealth than any other vehicle on four wheels.

Furthermore the vehicle unattended , and this does occur is a biggest net for the criminal than any other target.

We will also weld / bolt two small safes in the vehicle to frame or other massive location, for a cash, small valuables. And the second very small safe on the rear of the frame, (a combo safe) for car keys, while swimming in the ocean.

The main purpose of this thread is to immobilize the rig. As a means of anti theft protection.

A starter motor disconnect may be better than a battery kill switch.

The truck's electrical system can suffer a serious voltage spike if the battery earth is disconnected while the truck is running, because the alternator will still be generating power. This could destroy your ECU.
If you wanted a "kill switch" for the engine, it would also need to include a disconnect of the alternator field wire.

However... if the truck is not running, an earth disconnect will prevent the truck from being started, which is fine and meets your requirements.
In order to do this, ALL of the negative leads from the battery must go though an isolation switch.
Setting up your truck with such an isolation switch can have other benefits too, 2 of those being able to do welding on the truck without physically disconnecting the ECU and if the vehicle will be parked for extended periods, this method will also eliminate all parasitic loads, so your truck start batteries will not go flat as quickly.
Have you ever checked how much current is being drawn from your batteries when the truck is turned off? It's more than you might think.
An isolation switch is not a theoretical concept; it is how my own truck is set up, and it works exceptionally well.

If you want remote functionality for your isolation switch, that is also possible if you use something like the Bluesea ML-RBS Remote Battery Switch.
I should note... if you use one of these switches remotely it will need to be powered, so there will be a very small parasitic power loss in order to do that. If you don't need remote functionality you can use a similar, cheaper switch.

I would agree - Professionals told me this two days ago.

What is your opinion on a starter interrupt switch. Disabling the "starter only" from electrical current?

Is 20 gallons of "drinking water only" enough to carry on board ? I look at two special tanks for carrying drinking water only. I can use a 2.5 gallon under sink tank, and refill it.

Expedition vehicle - flatbed truck camper - hybrid (what is my rig)

This is on my mind. My rig has a cabover bed. And this is suspended about 100mm above the cab.

The subframe is spring mounted, yet I do not want too much side to side movement near the cab.

Can I engineer the subframe - frame twist further to the rear?

I am making these decisions now, as I build the spring mounts.
