Need some advice

As most of you know I decided to sell the Beast due to parking hassles and wanting to simplify my life and finances, alas the universe seems to have other plans. I managed to get the 12v sorted out (thanks Dave at Calibre Boat and RV in Denver CO) I got quotes to recover the front seats and the sofa $1600 and that is just the top section of the front seats not the entire seat, they are going to reuse the sides and back. Also got a quote to have the top wet sanded and refurbished and the body buffed out to remove the residue from the stripe removal, $1200. Both of those seem steep but come from very reputable shops, at which I have had work done by both. My question is, should I move forward with this or put the money into the suspension? (the van drives perfectly fine as is, doing the suspension is strictly a personal preference, not going full 4x4 but moving in a direction that will allow for complete conversion without wasting money) The Beast will still be up for sale just not going to actively pursue it, ie maybe a 4 sale sign in the window when its parked) so with that in mind what are your thoughts on where to put some money for future resale or is it just a wash and no money will be recuperated?

I'd say it would be a wash either way. You'd be more likely to see a return on the cosmetics and upholstery than the suspension.

After thinking a little more on the subject I think I am going to just order a pair of Sheep skin seat covers, I had them in my Vanagon and loved them, I will then have the upholstery shop just cover the sofa in a nice microfiber or suede of matching color! Thinking about tackling the wet sand myself with the help of some friends in the granite business, they polish stone all the time and this seems very similar. Has anyone bought sheep skin through this outfit? http://www.overland.com/SeatCovers.aspx

For now, it will be for sale but I am not actively pursuing it, I think I have found a way around the parking crisis and after freaking out a bit and then having some breathing room I decided that I bought it for a reason and might as well use it. I do love it in many respects and also think that there is never going to be a "perfect" rig so might as well enjoy what you have while you have it. Moab and Fruita here we come!! I was also informed that the quote I got for the top refurb and body buff was really quite reasonable.

you going to keep it now?

Saving $ for projects????

I have to ask myself, "why can't I just leave well enough alone"? Now that the van is back in my presence the only thing I can do is think about what it is "not", mainly visually appealing. I had a vision for a slightly lifted, bigger wheeled, bad @$$ bumpered rig! Light bars, winch, the whole enchilada!! My dilemma is patience, though we have the money to make it the way I want it NOW, I know in my heart that that is cheating and also financially irresponsible, so here is my question, how do you go about saving/funding projects? Do you pick a part and save for it, do you total up the entire build as you visualize it and save up to completion???? Really am interested in other peoples methodology

Cheat - you could be dead tomorrow!

Waiting to live is a slow death.

Use reason though, or someone will kill you when she sees what you did.

Look for deals, used products, cheaper options... and always keep an eye on adding value that can be recovered on sale.

We have had a few customers buy a 2wd Sportsmobile or B-Van, add 4x4 and all the black goodies and make thousands on the resale.

I'm a super cheap bastid, so I save for everything. I also often barter my artwork and furniture for parts/service/labor. Use a wide variety of search parameters when you're hunting craigslist/fleabay.
We never finance anything.

That would be sweet, wonder what something like that would cost considering that the wet sand and compounding/waxing is gonna run close to $1200????
This thing is dying for a deep charcoal grey metallic paint job!:coffeedrink:
