Jeep Grand Cherokee WK (2005-2010) as ExPo vehicle

I did another solo trip to Vermont and scored a free camp site at Somerset Airfield in the Green Mountain National Forest. The Jeep is a very capable overland vehicle and comfortable on the highway , it usually takes me 3 or 4 hours to get to the "good" class 4 roads.

Bob Freda, you are running 32" tires. Where do you keep your spare tire?

I've had 2 WJ's and considered a WK and a new Grand.

I have a 99' 4.7(2nd 99').

Solid axles are great but the WK blows it away on the street. Traction is traction and a QDII WK might as well have front and rear lockers(that system is amazing). IMO a stock QDII 05 WK would get much farther than an 04 with the original quadradrive and drive home relaxed.

I don't know much about the quadratrack system on the WK's. If it has traction control to brake a spinning wheel it would be leaps above any WJ in the traction dept.

As a platform for an pure off road rig I still think the WJ is a better buy(XJ/ZJ the best) but most of us use it for other things if not a DD too.

Only issue I have is if you picture circling around a WK looking at the lines of the vehicle saying.. yes, yes, yes, then the front and

:) I can't remember the last time I saw Al Bundy.

Yeah, I suppose the front end of the WK doesn't look as good as the other parts, but lifting it certainly improves things.

The 32" spare tire will fit in the stock location with some grinding at the receiver hitch, but it is tight.
I have since added a second spare tire to a receiver hitch mounted carrier. Vermont rocks are hard on tires!

And I removed my rear shelf storage unit and built a full extension drawer with the option of attaching a removable sleeping platform extension.

Good work Bob Freda.

Am liking the colour, don't see many like that, in fact I think yours is the first I've seen.

Nice Rock Harbor picture! I'm on the North Shore but used to drive out on Nauset Beach to fish and surf. The growing great white population has made surfing there less attractive lately. I had my wife's stock WK 3.7 QT1 with 245/70r17 Cooper AT3's out there last summer and was surprised how well it did in the soft sand.

The color is Rock Red Crystal and I've seen quite a few over here, maybe not availability across the " pond"

I remember when my WK was stock and being very impressed with the offroad performance.
We have a beach sticker for Sandy Neck Beach in Sandwich and love it, but would like to try Nauset or Race Point beaches next year.
