Jeep VanFC Concept

Love the concept. A few details I'd change from this image (not saying it's wrong as is, just a different idea...). I'd prefer no side doors on the drivers side, just one window behind the driver. On the other side, I'd take two doors and no window on the rear panel. Oh, and a CCV poptop. And in tan paint. Or dark green. Diesel would be nice but I'm OK with gas too. The portal axles are very cool but I'd get by with straight axles and 33" tires for a lot less money. Now, will Fiat build it? Like others have said, they show these awesome concepts, and then they go away and the US gets more of the same old stuff.

What do I think? Toyota all the way.

However, I think I would immediately call the bank and get pre-approved for financing before I signed the purchase contract for one, and sell my Tacoma privately.

Just for sake of discussion, in your virtual opinion, Aaron, what do you think the wheelbase is/would be? It looks bigger than a Pinz and a C303, yes? It might be a titch tall for the trails...but i like how you think. Those meats look to be 37" and I think 33 or 35 would be the max I'd want to go, would rather lower the COG/COM. Since we're dreaming, I'll stick with the $23,000 Portal Axles. Pop top and all amenties too, please/thank you.

That thing have a Hemi?

Don't have numbers on the wheelbase, but they started with a four door Wrangler and lengthened it. The wheel are 40" on 17" rims.
Yeah, it's kinda huge.

Here's it with a pop up added.

Says the guy with a Westy - Now those things look unstable.

I guarantee the Westy is more stable than something on 40" tires in a rollover situation. haha Westy's and Syncros can tilt to 45 degrees...there's no way that thing does.

put it on a stock height JKU Rubi chassis. Stuff a CRD under the seats and SELL SELL SELL!!!!

Make sure the back seat folds flat for a bed, have a fold out table OEM, maybe some swivels on the front seats and a rear facing jump seat behind the driver........wait....never mind.

It had me at plaid interior.....I'm sick like that!

The concept is nice but I can buy another diesel Mog for the price of the portals (of course I am partial to the advantages that portals add and wouldn't give them up or the 40" tires).I really hope they build this thing or sell the kit for it at least.:coffee:

I'm sorry, but to suggest that a westy is the superior off road vehicle, even off camber, is a bit silly. The tires are fully outside the footprint of the body! That thing would eat a westy for lunch, even sideways.

He only said it was better for rollover angle. A empty synchro has like 200 lbs above the floor. They will lose traction and slide before it has any chance to tip, unless someone loaded it stupidly.

I am thinking that a set of portals under a diesel RB will get you there a lot cheaper. A ujoint front end plus a portal conversion on the rear would be a good compromise if you can get the gear ratios lined up. Get that big rear pumpkin up out of the way but still allow the front room to articulate.

I think that the biggest issue I see with portals on an E350 Van would be clearance between the differential housing and the engine. I remember Chris saying that a 4" lift has very little clearance to begin with. Still, a very cool idea though, and if you had the $$$ to buy the portals in the first place, then I am sure you could pay to have them stuffed under a E-series van.

EDIT- re-reading your post r.w.- are you proposing a portal rear and standard front?
