True. And the only downside is there's a bit of extra weight in cans, per unit of spare fuel carried (about 2kg per 20 litres - say 10%).

I just talked to Dave Furiani at Atlantic British and they have some 20L cans in stock. Also, they have two large shipments coming in. They are not sure what is going to happen with being able to sell the new shipments. Since they were manufactured before the ban they are hoping they can unload them. I think they are banking that if they are ordered before Jan 1, they can still legally ship them. Just give Dave a call at Atlantic British and he will set you up.

If you tell him Travis Mault sent you regarding Jerry Cans he will instantly know you are trying to get in on the 20L cans before they are gone. I plan on ordering a few more before the dead line.

They are green. I think I saw somewhere that gas cans have to be red. Anyone know of this is true? Of course, most filling station attendants are totally oblivious to what is going on out at the pumps.

I know it really does not matter as long as you filing them up yourself, but I have always wondered what happened when you went to a state like NJ or OR. Will the attendant fill a NATO can if it is not red with DOT stamped on the side?

You know, the only time I ever lost a gas cap was in NJ. They don't let you pump your own gas there, and the attendant forgot to put it back on.

I don't know. All mine are green and so far no problems.

Speaking of Woo Hoo!, a pair of new 10L cans showed up at my front door on Christmas Eve. That just about fills up my can storage space.

I'm thinking of a coastal camping trip from the Monterey bay area North to the Portland All British Field meet on Labour day weekend. Linus is interested in going & hopefully we can talk Ian into it. That would make 4 Land Rover Dormobiles on the trip.

I have a question!

Anyone have a damaged small mouth NATO can that still has a good cap they would like to sell? One of my NATO small mouth cans lost it's cap on an Expedition and I have yet to have one of it's brothers rust through or get crushed, so it sets in the back of the shop. I'd like to get it working again.

Although burns to children are tragic, I think this kind of knee jerk reaction is ignorrnant. More politicians trying to leave their mark. Wouldn't it be easier to just add a lock? The NATO can would rerequire very little to secure them.
I've known people who have been burned by trying to start campfires with gasoline. Why make our life more diffucult trying to fix STUPID.

I asked my 7 year old to try and open the new NATO cans. She couldn't - it took too much force. As far as I am concerned, the law should be written around the standard set by the NATO cans.

I have some empathy for those burned. I was stupid and got burned starting a fire with gasoline. There were 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 18% of my body. Getting the skin grafts was almost as painful and the burn. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and it was almost 3 months before I could go back to work. However, a childproof gas can would not have saved me from my stupidity.

As a child growing up on a farm, we stored gas for our mowers in old milk jugs, none of us ever get hurt, and no fires were started. I also rode in the back of pick-up trucks on the highway.

Government needs to protect us for bigger things then Gas Cans!!!!!

I love the new "ventless" cans that are designed with a siphon to try and capture the fuel vapors into the can. I think it's a CARB thing, to help with smog.

But, all the systems suck. I've never spilled so much fuel in my life. Totally defeats the purpose!

Amen. I never had a filling-spilling problem with a good old metal can with a flexy metal spout...

I just ordered another 4 Wedco cans from ExEx, and hopefully they actually have them in stock. This should be a good compliment to my 8 NATO cans and 4 Scepter cans...

Between stocking up on arms and ammunition, and now on gas cans, this has been a mighty expensive 4th quarter 2008...

I have a question. If I were to get some cans that were not CARB compliant from a "relative out of state" and the cans manufacture date is after the carb compliance law was enacted could these cans be confiscated? As much as I dislike the CARB compliant cans I would also hate to drop $200 on gas cans only to have them confiscated. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, who would confiscate them? Who would even be examining them to know one way or another? Maybe I am just spoiled, living in a state that does no vehicle/emissions inspections/testing, but I can't imagine how anyone would be allowed to get close enough to my personal property to inspect it for CARB compliance...
