jk 4dr Rhino Backbone Roof Rack

I have the backbone albeit on the JK 2dr. For what it weighs, for it can carry and low wind noise I don't think it can be beaten. Works perfectly with the RTT.

Thanks Dragon,
That's the first picture I have seen with a RTT on a Rhino Backbone roof rack.

Anymore pics of a loaded up Backbone JK rack? After ordering a J30, going down to pick it up from Seattle to San Diego and having issues with UMV, I'm now abandoning that option and looking at doing this rack for my Foxwing Awning and RTT.

I'm also interested in the RTT/Rhino Rack combo pic's. Weighing that set-up to some other option's but need confirmation the rack will support a hard shell RTT and 2 adults.

I have a 120lb CVT Mt Bachelor RTT on my rhino rack backbone system. I bought the 2 bar, heavy-duty (square) bar system. I have at least 2000 miles and now 2 good days of offroading on the system with the RTT, and so far so good.

One drawback was wind noise with an empty rack, mine whistled at speeds from 20mph and up.
With the RTT mounted, the whistle is gone.

This guy put one on a 3-bar backbone, but never replied when I asked him about it... you could try PM'ing him

Couple more pics. I can get detailed pics of how things mount up there. Super easy. Keep in mind Rhino Rack offers all kinds of mounts for bikes, skis, boards, etc.

Yes the Back Bone will easily support a hardshell and two adults. Our red shop JKUR has this system and we frequently used a James Baroud Discovery RTT (130lbs) and my girlfriend and I (125 +190 lbs) with no issues. The same to be said with my JKUR and AEV version of the Rhino Rack platform.

Thanks Timgco and Mass_Mopar, you guys have awesome looking rig's thanks for sharing.

I have a few questions on the RR..

-How long have you had the rack, any noticeable wear?

-How does Rhino Rack weather-proof the holes on the hard top, was there padding, sealant or nothing? This is a big one for me.

-Do you guys experience whistling with the rack on?

Thanks in advance, leaning more and more in this direction every day. I was apprehensive at first because of the static weight rating and also the exposed 'feet'. I prefer the streamlined look of the AEV mounting but I'm not keen on keeping the hard top on semi-permanently.

Thanks rin, good info. One question for you, does the tent insulate well in colder temp's at night, let's say 30 degree's? I noticed they sell a kit to help insulate during colder weather not sure if that's over kill or if the tent actually need's that below 40.

side note I love your rig, super well done. I follow you on Instagram and enjoyed the VT pic's this past weekend. I'll need to jump on your build page and borrow some inspiration -especially when it comes to the cargo organization.

Thanks man! :) VT was a blast once again.

The insulation kit is killer, with two people in the tent I actually don't use the insulation kit until about >30* . Even last week in VT and 15* bags we were more than comfortable and half out of our bags. Mid November we will be headed for a weekend in the Catskills, that may be the time I bust out the kit. haha

Question: the Rhino Rack website says " Any parts of the system that are external are powder coated to suit the appearance of your Jeep." Does this mean they can match the feet to the color of my painted hardtop (white)? Most of the images i see are on black tops.

The feet in my kit are some kind of plastic/composite. The base plates the feet mount to are a cast metal (aluminum I think). They include adhesive foam to seal around every hole you drill, so far in 3 months no evidence of any leaks. The only part that's shown any wear is the finish on some of the Allen screws, not a huge deal to touch up...

We have painted multiple sets, a trip to the bodyshop and they can be paint matched.

I have a few questions on the RR..

Since the start of Summer. The powder coat seems to hold up well. I've had quite a few things strapped down to it. No issues to date.

-How does Rhino Rack weather-proof the holes on the hard top, was there padding, sealant or nothing? This is a big one for me.
Comes with a gasket kit that has an adhesive backing on it. I hit those legs with a pressure washer. No leaking there at any of the mounting points.

-Do you guys experience whistling with the rack on?
The only time I get noise from the rack is when I have a bunch of gear strapped down on it. Outside of that, it is quiet. Thanks in advance, leaning more and more in this direction every day. I was apprehensive at first because of the static weight rating and also the exposed 'feet'. I prefer the streamlined look of the AEV mounting but I'm not keen on keeping the hard top on semi-permanently.

You can also get a quick release kit on the version that I have. I do not have one installed yet, but will be doing so. This way it will be easy to take off if I need to for washing/ waxing the roof. You can get in there to clean as it sits now, just a little tougher.
