JK Habitat No Longer in Production?

This new model is a very intriguing update to the previous J180/Habitat. I am excited to see where this goes and how the optional interior access is configured. Do you have any pictures in the closed postition?

What is the overall height addition to the factory top? I.E. measurements from the top of the roof to the top of the habitat?

How are those supports attached to the tub in back, Martyn?
Can you open/close the gate with the supports deployed?

Looks like I'd be hitting my head on it in back...

The aluminum tubes attach to a steel ball via a quick disconnect.

We set this vehicle up so the support went to the inside of the swing away. It can be set up to go to the outside corner of the vehicle.

The whole thing looks very nice and the price is fantastic! I can see the logic of it to sleep 4 up top having space below for supplies etc. It does seem to me that for 2 people in a jeep( seems like this is the majority of folks out there. If it could be mounted so the tent opened over the front as one poster thought and access form the inside that would be a very nice intermediate level between the the j 30 an the way it is now.

What would be the problems with turning it around? to open over the front?

Seems like space wise that would work...... access through the roof panels via a small ladder that goes up from the middle of where back seat is to the bed area above the hood. I know what seems like a good idea in my mind often has numerous "ERRORS IN THOUGHT" in reality>

The primary issue with opening to the front is that the AT Habitat uses externally mounted pressurized gas strut(s) to assist lifting to open and to reduce it from flopping down once opened past 90 degrees. The flippak type camper tops used a torsion bar in the hinge point but it was heavy and often failed. Not sure how Ursa Minor does the J180 version for the jeep jku?

This gas cylinder / strut has to be mounted at an angle by the hinge on the side of the vehicle - which, if it opened to the front, would interfere with the front doors from being able to be opened. I suppose it could be removeable and then put in place only while opening and closing though.

The benefit of opening towards the back is it provides a built in awning cover. The downside to me is it doesn't allow for any roof mounted items such as kayak or bike racks without becoming head bangers.

The benefit of opening over the hood is that you can have kayak holders etc. mounted on the roof - but you have to unload the roof before opening.

The benefit of the J30 style (angled) is that it can be opened with kayaks etc. on the roof and also is ideal for having solar panels mounted on it as well.

Correct on both points.

The gas struts are removable, but the lid has to be opened to vertical so they are decompressed, not really practical for a quick release.
