JKJenn's Expedition Build Thread

Great looking Jeep! I look forward to seeing the rest of this build.

Just a couple of questions that may help me with my Jeep build, as it looks like we have similar tastes:

What's your overall feeling on the AEV 2.5"? Ok, good, great?

Why didn't you like the overhang of your RTT facing the rear of the Jeep?

What kind of front end droop did you experience after putting on the aftermarket front bumper with the AEV?

Highly appreciate your time, and again: great looking rig.

I love the AEV build, especially after adding the geometry correction brackets. The JK handles so easily with those brackets.

I have not paid terribly close attention to droop but I really don't think I have any droop. My front bumper is not the most high end after market bumper, it is a Rugged Ridge XHD.

I had the tent facing the rear at first but the back hatch was sort of in the way. I just didn't care for it in general. It became completely impractical with the ladder extension.

Great looking build
Thanks!

Dang nice build....Why can't I find a woman with your tastes? lol!
Thanks (I think) :)

I really need some skids and rock sliders next. Hoping those can be mostly found on CL...but, the whole M416 buid kills most of the mod budget for the JK this year.

M416 Build thread is now up!

Beautiful build and pics.
Could you let me know what axe and shovel are those and also info on the mounts.
Thanks!

Axe
Shovel
Quick Fists
Mighty Mounts

I had to drill out the hole in the quick fist to match the Mighty Mounts, but that was the only alteration I had to make. the center bolt from the Mighty Mount goes through the center of the Quick Fist. Pretty easy stuff.

Excellent JKU! Love it

Thanks, heehawhardy!

I got pretty lousy mileage driving to Wyoming this fall and the JK really struggled on the mountain passes so I am considering regearing. My Sahara has 3.73 gears (Dana 30 front axle) and I am running the stock Rubicon rims and tires. I have the AEV 2.5" suspension lift, a Gobi Roof Rack, and so far have RR XHD front bumper and Warn M8000. I won't go any bigger with tires. I would like to add a couple of skids, but don't plan on replacing the rear bumper yet. I really don't do any rock crawling, I just want to be able to drive the trails that are easy to moderate, and don't require lockers. It is my DD, and, although I work at home, I am on the road quite a bit with family stuff. That being said, I usually do a 5,000+ mile trip out west each year.

Should I go for 4.88's or do I need to go all the way to 5.13's?

PS: Aren't you proud of how much I have learned about my JK? :)

Any recommendations?

Even 4.88s will be tall with stock Rubi tires. I sure wouldn't do 5.39s unless you are going for 35s. Maybe 4.56?

I looked through your post but couldn't find if your Jeep is an AUTO or 6-SPEED, that will make a big difference. I look at it this way, your sport came with 3:73 gears but a 2011 Rubicon would have 4:10's so 4:56 would be a little lower than stock for a Rubicon and a good size jump from your 3:73 gears. If you have an Auto then that is what I would go with if you have a 6-SPEED then I would do a little more research. Find a 2010-2011 6-Speed JKURubicon which has 4:10 gears and drive it to see how it drives on the highway, then imagine it loaded down with your gear... On another note 5:13 gears a perfect with 35" tires (34" actual hight)....

No matter what gear you have it will always struggle because of the lack of torque...
Hope this helps..... Albert
