Man I really want to do this.

I will be driving the JKU to Expo (staying at nearby Munds Park in the RV) with this bracket mounted up if anyone happens to want a closer look just send me a PM here and I'll give you my text # to contact me on Sat so I can let you know where I am parked at Expo. Thus far I could not be happier with the setup and would not change anything about it. Well, maybe one thing, and this may be a future enhancement, I might make it so there are threaded mount studs for fast removal and mounting which are capped when the mount is not attached. I likely will keep it attached most of the time though.

I have been building a new rear bumper for my CJ and thinking of adding a propane tank to it. The 10 pound tank would save some weight and I like the three sided mount. Are those just big hose clamps holding the tank in ???

Close, they are similar but spring loaded to take some jarring without over stressing and have no slots for securing/tightening but rather a type of racheting setup so I would say they are quite a bit stronger and more designed for holding heavy cylinders and such. They were part of the propane holder assembly that AT sells and might be the same or similar to what PowerTank offers for securing their CO2 tanks. I'm sure you could purchase them somewhere without the mount but I'm not sure where that would be. Zoom in on this pic from the AT web site to see more detail of the actual bracket I used: http://store.adventuretrailers.com/products/10-lb.-Propane-Cylinder-Bracket.html

What about some of the nylon straps instead of stainless steel straps???

I'm actually considering switching to a couple of nylon straps with metal grip fasteners. I swapped out my metal tank for a composite one and the diameter of the protective housing is larger than the metal tanks so the SS clamps are too small. Of course common sense needs to be applied to assure that straps of sufficient strength including the clasps are utilized considering the weight of the tank and jarring that occurs during aggressive travels off and on road. Also UV considerations with age. I found 2 fairly heavy duty straps at HD that should work just fine. With the SS clasps the tank takes more time to remove and is therefore a bit more secure from walking away. I use a plastic wrapped cable lock looped around the tank holder through part of the mount to help deter an easy theft.
