I flew to Oklahoma City, OK Wednesday, arriving at 3 pm and bought a 2008 Sprinter that I found on Craig's List. Wrapped up the transaction and hit the road for San Diego about three hours later.

Drove straight through with a 2 hour stop in Albuquerque for a shower and a two hour stop in Phoenix for lunch with a friend - just over 24 hours total trip.

From GPS:
Trip Distance: 1378.69 Miles
Trip Time: 19:34:02
Average Speed: 70.59 (that includes slow speeds in towns....)
Max Speed: 87.90

Driving speeds were between 70 and 85.
Hit one huge storm in Texas - unbelievable lightning, wind, rain and hail.
All in all a very comfortable ride.
20.3 mpg in one stage averaging 75 mph - impressed.

I'm going to enjoy these Sprinters!!!

Not giving up my 4X4 E350 SMB just yet but at twice the fuel mileage...:Wow1:

Thanks for sharing the trip information. You were really bookin' it. That fuel economy is sweet for the V-6 at that speed. I suspect that the lower roof helps, and it sure makes for a good looking truck (especially with the MBz grille).

Enjoy the truck.

In 2007, when I was 50, I solo'ed the 1000, when it was closer to 1400 miles, in a single seat buggy in a time of 53 hours (had to do some major work on it during the race). I had 1 hour of sleep during that time and 4 hours of sleep in 96 hours.

Six years later I'm still tired!

What is the plan for the front 4x4 conversion? Independent front A-arms with CV shafts like a 1 ton Chevy truck? No solid axle in front right? Got a website or pic of the conversion plan?

Looks good, nice body style. How is the interior set up?

It is a blank palette - not sure what I am going to do with it. I wanted one to see if I like it - so far I do. I do like the Econoline platform better for towing and off-roading and my E350 rides better than the Sprinter but 24 mpg is really attractive as is the space inside.
