Jumping Jack Tent Trailers

That looks like a good trailer! If I could still get around, I would buy one of the smaller trailers. This one starts out at a good price, it's the options that jack the price up. Oh to be young and moble again.LOL

There are so many trailers out there it took us over a year to figure out which one would meet our needs. The Jumping Jack was the only one that we found that had what we wanted and was in our price range. Once we get some of the options on it, we will beable to carry water and gas cans and propane tank. (They hang of the back, side, or front, so if they leak they don't leak on the trailer.) We have thought about getting one of those side by side ATV's to put on the top, so we would have to buy the ramps to, and those are not cheap. rupe

Yep it is about what works for each of us. I thought that getting a view from someone that owns one should tell their experances with it and what it was like to tow it and where you can and can't take it. That's all I was attempting to do. Personal experance helps me make a decision on whether I want to buy a product or not. Wasn't trying to make a sale pitch to everyone, just those that wanted to know about them. Sorry if I sounded like it was a trailer for everyone. I will be the first to admit that it isn't for everyone. As I said in my other posts, it's not a trailer for trails like the Rubicon or any other trail that needs a short narrow trailer. I just want people to know that it isn't but little bit wider then my JK. rupe
Feed back from those with first hand experience is great, it's what makes forums like this so valuable. I didn't take your post as a sales pitch at all and I don't think you sounded like you thought it was a trailer for everyone.
I was just adding my observations and opinion to the discussion with my first post and agreeing with you in my second.

How do the fold out beds support? Looks like from the pictures it uses the built in roof rack to bear against the sides of the trailer? Is there a leg or something that goes from the outside edge to the ground? Thanks

I have owned one for nearly four years. An awesome base camp.

We review it fully in the summer 08 issue of Overland Journal and I have also reviewed it on Expeditions West.

In reality its only limitation is extreme trail use and the fact that most storage needs to be strapped to the top, and subsequently removed for each set-up.

No legs it just folds open. I weigh 255lbs and Mrs. Rupe weighs, ya like I'm going to say! LOL Lets just say we don't flex it that I can tell at all. It is very strong. The trailer is built strong and maybe over built in areas. It does weigh 1200lbs with just the tent and tent frame. I will have to see how it does over the next couple of years. If I notice the beds starting to sag, it would be easy to put in a brace from the outer edge of the bed frame down to the trailer frame. rupe

That's good to hear that they are holding up, that was my main concern when I bought mine. Will it last? It does, good deal. Also do you think it could be lifted a couple of inches with out to much of a pain? I would like to put taller tires on it some day. Also the Thule box will help to take stuff on and off the top faster. Strapping down and unstrapping is more time consuming then putting up and taking down the tent. Thanks rupe

Rusty- I'm sorry I thought you were meaning that it was the size of a travel trailer in width or something. You are right about input and observations from everyone is what makes a forum. I reread mine and I thought It sounded as I was say you can't live with out it. LOL I tend to go over board when I really like something. Glad it didn't sound like a sales pitch. rupe

What Thule box are you using and how did you mount it? The fact that all your stuff goes on top instead on inside is my main concern with this trailer. A guy on my street has one and abuses the crap out of it back country hunting and hauling a couple 4 wheelers on top. He can't say enough good things about it.

A buddy of mine is giving it to me, I haven't picked it up yet, but I think I'm just going to run a couple of Rachet style straps over it to start with. It's about 6' by 3' foot from what I understand and just like new (yea) I haven't seen it yet. He said that I might beable to weld a couple of cross bars and use the factory mounts on it. I will have to figure out where I want to carry it to balance out the weight of Cooler, gas, water, and propane tanks so it tows right.
Glad to hear about the guy down the street abusing his and it's holding up. I don't think I will abuse mine but sometimes you just got to get where you are going. :088:

I can't wait to get the Thule, that will make it so much nicer and clean out the back of the Jeep as well, so just the survival kit, tools, and recovery gear can stay there and have room for the back seat to be used. Right now everything that can get dirty and dusty we load into the back of the Jeep, Sleeping bags, pillows, etc. It will be nice to clear it out a bit. rupe

With a torsion axle you may be able to lift just by re-indexing.

I have a Jumping Jack trailer and have used it extensively for 5 years. It is very well-made and designed in my opinion. My wife and I spent a week in it when it was raining continuously most of the time. It never got wet inside beyond some moisture at the seams and it handled some heavy winds along with the rain without issues. We have also done trips on graded roads with it many times without issue--it is clearly not meant for real off-road travel, but ours has upgraded offroad tires and rims and it probably could take more if we tried. The ability to put heavy loads on top is a nice feature--we towed it with a large shed/flooring kit on it from Home Depot for 60+ miles and 3000 ft elevation gain without issues. I'll bet that kit weighed 1000lbs or more. I find the beds comfortable and I like the interior room--you can stand up inside even at 6'3".

Cheers,
Greg

Very cool little camper. Look forward to hearing more feedback on these. Does anybody know what the current prices run, approximately?
