In looking at the pictures I thought the 400lbs was pretty optimistic and then you also need to add in the weight of your equipment and supplies.
Yep. This one must be partially built out of helium. Just FYI, my empty EarthRoamer Jeep, which is very similarly-equipped options-wise and actually encloses less cabin volume weighs about 6500 pounds when loaded but without any interior furniture.

Εven if we are talking about the swb jk?
Your roof is longer and sturdier in order to stand two people sleeping
on it...Then again...how should i know?

He does not say how can you take off the top when you're out there...

Cool stuff

Nice concept - but renderings are the easy part. To hit that weight it's going to have to be a fiberglass - foam sandwich I would think, but that brings with some interesting manufacturing challenges and expensive tooling. I'll call it at $15 to $20 k per unit if made in Europe and shipped to USA.

The part I find curious is putting the spare tire in the bed. That rubber stink would be powerfully unpleasant if it was closed up on a hot day, and if you changed out a bad tire I wouldn't want the road dirt in my bed afterwards - and getting it in/out would be a chore on a humid day.

It's interesting that they have removed the roll cage. From what I gather from my colleagues in Europe modification of the existing vehicle from a safety perspective is no longer allowed by European standards.

The manufacturers of vehicle tops like this are now working in a gray area, not quite certain if they are legal or not. It will be interesting what happens with this in the future as most of the pop top build done in Europe require removal of structural parts of the vehicle.

In talking with potential importers of the JK Habitat to Europe the fact that we don't modify the structure of the vehicle was a big plus. It's evident that the resellers in Europe are aware of the contradiction in regulations, and also interesting that the manufacturers are still pushing ahead hoping for the best.

Please read the section >> Rollcage this describes what we'll do. Of course not just cutting off...

Since there are only renderings (I didn't see any pictures of real ones) it seems safe to think that they haven't actually had one built to be inspected, no?

I'm sorry you're right. This week on Thursday the CNC work should be finished. In one more month the tools and the first prototype.

Does anybody know manufacturers who could be interested to produce in U.S.?

Your Wrangler is equipped with many extras. Everything adds up. I talk about the extra weight of a standard equipped slide-in ( or on, whatever is right ) camper after taking off the original hardtop, the rear door, the rear seat with seat belts, and the rear roll cage.

The shell is an almost closed shell with the furniture as part of the structure. The integrated rear aluminum roll cage helps the structure too, without being heavy.

Optional we'll offer the shell and furniture in carbon.
