Just got back from Sonora & Baja. Great trip!

I will be in Puerto Penasco (AKA: Rocky Point) in the next few weeks to see my buddy's new restaurant located at the Sonoran Sun Resort. That little town is growing very fast and a lot of gringos are retiring there. The new highyway to the California border will bring in a lot of tourists and a lot of money to this coastal town.

Thank you!

Yes, I ventured a little too far on to that wet sand and we almost had a bad scene. (just a note, that is as far south as you can go past El Desemboque 'north' on the beach.)

I told my girlfriend to get out and watch the front, if it started to sink, yell.

Well, while she was watching the front, I felt the rear go down and suddenly she screams, "OH ********!". I threw it in reverse and gave 'er the gas.

We got out by the hair of our chinny, chin, chins!

That is her pretending to save her

Here are a couple more shots of the "HOLE". If you look close, you can see where my rear pumpkin and axle were sitting in the sand.

Congratulations on your Sonora Trip, and like I said it before, Sonora in my favorite state in Mexico, lot's of great virgin bays to explore, however I had some issues with some of the Siris in Punta Chueca before; but you just keep on going and mind your own business! along the road and esteros by Punta Chueca there is the Canal del Infernillo by the Isla Tiburon do you have any pictures of the area? Did you get to see the giant turtles or the huge stingrays? and of course we want to see more pictures!:jump:

Sorry about the road to Puerto Libertad i should have warn you, like you said it is very very washboard:Wow1: .:088:

I did not get to see the giant rays or turtles. Now I know... :(

Unfortunately we bypassed that whole area and went right into Kino so I don't have pics.

Next time...

Here are some more random pics. The rainbow and dark skys are in Bahia LA, when we were trying to find cover.

Okay a few more.

I think the donkeys in Ensenada know that my cruiser could put them out of business...;)

The last ones are in Joshua Tree.

If you look at the final pic very closely, you can see the faint outline of a mountain, that mountain is actually in Mexico. It was a little hazy from the smoke of the wildfire now burning near Palm Springs.

Hope you enjoy.

Great photos! I am down in your area a couple of times a month. Maybe we can get together to see the rest of your pictures.

Too bad you had to take the paved road to LA Bay and miss the coast over there.
How did you like the dive yak?

Anytime! Let me know when you will be down here!

Yes, the paved road basically sucks. I have been down the old dirt highway before on an XR600 a few years back, but I was really looking forward to a couple of days at San Francisquito. Oh well, next time as it is no fun in the driving rain.

The diveyak is a very nice unit. It roles up into a duffel bag and is very stable. You can climb on and off of it with dive gear on and it will not tip.
Holds 700lbs and has detachable fins for straight-line paddling.
Highly reccomended.

Great photos and stories - thank you for sharing! Made me instantly miss Sonora and Baja - I recognized many places we've spent lots of time. Wonderful to see them again!

Sad story about Punta Chueca and the Seri Indians - wow. We'd heard that some of the young people had been getting involved in drug trafficking. Likely it's no worse there than other places in remote Mexico - you just happened to get some inside information. We have friends who just sea kayaked from south of Puerto Penasco to Bahia Kino, through Seriland, and spent lots of time with Seris and had no troubles . . .

Well, thanks for sharing again! Great Land Cruiser, and wonderful photos.

A couple of things...

Great pics!

Since you and Euro both know the area now. When are WE going? I also thought your original plan was just to stick to the peninsula, or did I miss something along the way-or just reading too many threads ;)

Those drawers are nice! I forget who makes those (norcal guy-name is skipping my mind).

What are your impressions of the tent?

Oh, and...
more pics!

Thanks! I like to take pics, as you probably can tell.

I will have to work a little before I can take another 2.5 weeks off but I would love to set something up with a group. I can do a week (+/-) in the spring I actually would have preferred a small caravan, safety in numbers and all that, but it is also fun with more people, more ideas and more interests.

No, you are correct about the original plan. We decided at the last minute to hit Sonora as we learned there was a ferry in Guaymas. My girlfriend actually discovered that in a book we have. She called them on our international phone and confirmed everything and our plans were altered. Figured we would get the best of both worlds.

His name is Jeff Kaufman, very cool guy and I can get you his number if you want. They work very, very well. Probably one of my best mods.

What are your impressions of the tent?

Tent is very cool, we got sand blasted by a fairly powerful windstorm our first night on the beach but with a deck of cards, a bottle of wine and a bag of jerky, we were A-ok inside. My only complaint is the ladder, flimsy feel and it is held together with these cotter pins that are kind of a PITA. I will be designing a telescoping aluminum one when I get some time this winter. It has a built in mattress which is very nice and you can leave your bedding up there to save room. Not the pillows but the sleeping bag.

Okay, more coming!
