just a little reminder for those that want to transport propane or other pressurised fuels in their vehicles .. the story below was an acyteleen tank. not the same but propane is everybit as deadly...

Bet the plumber will think again before pushing his remote on the car door....... not sure if he made it through this one tho. . . .

Result of leaking Acetylene bottle stored in plumbers van 10-22-09. Accidently ignited by activating a remote door lock device.

Yep....many 100's of years when I went to college in Grand Junction Colorado
a guy at the VA hospital knocked over an acetylene tank and the valve broke off....the thing went thru a block wall and landed 2 blocks over in a park. was found a few feet from a car, it was about 2 ft deep into the lawn. (The tank, not the car:sombrero:)

My boss showed these pics in our safety meeting about three months back.
Lots of destruction there.

things go boom :)

one thing I find interesting is his yard looks messy ? like unkept and junk around the others are clean ?

now in my diving years I have handled a ton of scuba tanks while not explosive they can do damage but are very very tough

tanks that are very old and damaged tend to go boom well taken care of tanks usually never go boom

I sometimes wonder if the guys tanks were in bad shape etc...

i was going to buy some propane tanks for my trailer 10# ones found a propane place selling them used and they were dented and rusted and beat beyond belief yet he had this OH they will do fine
one of the dents was a sharp crease kind dent something I would not want for sure

I sometimes wonder if some of these with leaky valves or other things could have been avoided if they were kept up or in better shape ?

Damn. Thanks. Will now go back on my original plan to got with 5lb tanks stored inside my trailer. Probalby will revert to standard 20 lbers mounted outside. Probably even worse idea was I was going to keep all my appliances hooked up with permanently installed hoses. I'll take the extra 2 minutes to install the hoses when I make camp.

I bet the tanks are just fine.......But I also bet he had a leak in the valve or didn't shut the valve off all the way, gas escaped, filled the van, spark from the remote set the contained gas off.......BOOM!

Acetylene is probably the worst. Extremely fast and hot combustion and it's air to fuel ratio for combustion is very broad, say compared against propane.

My local welding supply for years had pics of a full-size car that looked like a banana peel from the trunk forward. Driver hit the electric trunk open button with a slight leak from a cylinder. Not much left!

Scary stuff that needs a lot of respect. Just a small drink cup can take out windows, and I won't tell you how I know. :Wow1:
