Oh boy...just when I thought he had learnt how to post pics...:)....
On a serious note, hope you didn't get caught up in the whole nice thing....hmmm, why are you always nearby when something bad happens....what do you do for work again..?.
Sounds like an alternator problem on your truck, just ran until the small amount of juice it needed to keep a diesel running expired... And yes, then the immobilized kicks in and you sometimes have to reset it with the Land Rover tool....real pain in the ***....it sometimes resets by leaving the battery disconnected and then reconnecting it and operating the remote control to initiate the alarm sequence..

I am going to have a dossier somewhere. Brussels day-of, Nice day-before. Just glad we were out of there, and that France lost at footy! It would have been a madhouse, was crowded enough even after the loss to Portugal.

Agree on alt. Between my searches on LRO, Defender2, and AULRO, seems to be the likely culprit. It is on the way to dealership in Augsburg, so hopefully 2-3 weeks I will have it back. We have no idea how good service is in the US. Along those lines, truck was booked for work at Rinkert, a local LR indy, for intermediate shaft. Now either Dealer will fix, or I have to book out another 3 weeks for repairs.

Do you know the brand for these vents? I'm looking for some to fit the smaller windows on the LR African-spec 3-door roof-sides. I'll dig around the Nakatanenga web site...

I have a set for my Disco 3. When I talked to them, they only make them for the Defender and Disco second seat (passenger). Not sure what size you need for those windows you speak of but maybe you could cut it down to remove a leaver or so to fit. Just a thought.

Nakatanenga now makes adjustable ones

It turns out that the French affliate of ADAC, my german auto club, take 2-3 weeks before they will ship out of France and back into Germany. Truck died in France on the 17th, and is still there. ********************. The dealership awaits the 110, amd hopefully a fairly quick fix.

Truck located! Made it to dealer 2 weeks after going on the flatbed. Hopefully warranty issue, and they check diff play and clutch.

Off topic of the truck....I was reading Shayne's Overland Pimpwagon build and saw TeriAnn question the overland focus. I see Shayne's and TeriAnn's point equally. Here in Western Europe, there really is no where to actually attemp vehicle dependant travel. Campgrounds have bars, restaurants, and swimming pools. There is really no off pavement roads in Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg...some exist in Austria, Italy and Switzerland, but are regulated

We would love to get away from it all, but as soon as we think we have 2-80 year olds on bikes or a 100 person Volksmarch pops up!

For all that, each trip enables us to refine our techniques: go slow into French toll stations or the sensors see the RTT and your ticket comes out at about 6 feet off the ground; google RV or Exotic car parking in Paris or Nice for parking for a 110 with RTT; We never have used the hand crank shortwave radio, why do we bring it, never forget to buy the Austrian or Swiss carnet on entry, ..and so on.

We do have a TBD plan to drive up thru Czechia, Poland, Lith, Lat, Estonia..on into Russia, Fin, Sweden, down to Denmark and back to Germany. That should give us some opportunities to see how our planning, gear, and build are working.

As "Overlanding" goes mainstream, routes are shared and overpopulated, gear preferences evolve, and there becomes an implied standard. We cannot all transit the Darien, let alone be the first. But doing something, meeting the people out there, seeing just incredible vistas and sights...well, it beats the cubicle and lawn work.

New family member coming!

We are expecting! Yep, it's a little late in life, and we certainly had not planned or foreseen this coming.

Working here in Germany, my wife has been a little out of touch with her family in the US, and it is difficult for spouses to get jobs here. She expressed an interest in adding to the family! She has felt a little of the "empty nest" thing. We have discussed our options, timing (we are both getting older, ya know) and we figured that if we were going to do it, now is the time! The German system, the benefits, the meticulous care all helped us to decide to act.

I have contacted a few specialits to alleviate any issues. The wife is happy, and we await our new arrival. We don't care what it is, as long as it is a healthy HCPU or Perentie. So the hunt is on! Hopefully some of my emails to The UK get answered, we fly over and ferry back with our new "baby".

Hell, with GBP to USD right now, we may have twins, and give one up for adoption. Let me know if any Perentie admirers want one...

Got the following from the seller today:

"Thursday is OK for collection - the 110 is booked in for MOT tomorrow, we're just waiting for a new centre silencer that needed replacing, in addition we have fitted a reconditioned transfer box, when I drove the 110 I thought it was a bit too noisy.

We've also done the cam belt"

Uh....thanks, guys!

Hope you have better reliability luck with this one than the other...:)

It is a Land Rover. It is in their nature. 20 thou trouble free kilometers before it went tits up. I am suspecting more and more that the garage in Paris drained battery, and tried to jump-start without knowing where battery is! Thats a 500 amp fuse, BTW.

We fly over to Birmingham Wed night, look at Perenties and collect truck Thurs., and take Harwick to Hook-ofHolland ferry Friday night at 2300 for an arrival in Netherland 0800 Sat AM. Then some roaming in Zeeland, make it back to Stuttgart by Sunday.

Somewhere in between getting the truck and getting to ferry, since we will be with 10 miles of a place named Solihull, we have to at least do cheesy photos by factory, or book a tour.

Solihull

We are in Birmingham, at the hotel waiting for the seller to come round.

Latest on vehicle: Failed MOT due to rear silencer. The seller is replacing and should have MOT done by our arrival. This means that since we have made the deal to buy this 110 is has had middle and rear silencers, transfer box, and cam belt replaced. If we were to go to a mechanic for these items, it would be about 40% of what we are payong for the whole truck!

I am also all over local web "for sale" sights, lots of parts here cheap! Wolf and SVX rims, pick up converion kits (300-400USD), doors, seats...dang. Rear crossmember section, new for about 250. May go back with a truck-full of stuff.

Trying to book a Land Rover tour, the Defender Celebration tour being my pick. Tour the Heritage workshop, the take a Defender on the Solihull test lanes. Waiting for email back.

At the very least, we will get some poseur shots at the factory.

Awaiting a few orders. Massive loads of DynaMat, the James Baroud window insulation kits, some Chinese LED interior light bulbs, and light guards for the outside.

Looking forward to the drive to Harwich and the ferry trip to Netherlands late tomorrow.

Picked up this AM. Seller threw in a 1/4 chassis/rear crossmember. Great guy, seems to be a good truck. Driving in UK is a little different.

First mod: $100 or so worth of premium diesel. Car tracks straight, stops well, went over bulkhead and outriggers, good shape.

Needs a good engine wash to figure where the oil leaks are coming from.

Also drove a Perentie 110. Completely different than TDi or Puma. Very different sound and feel. Liked it alot.
