And as far as the interior goes I have no plans for any major customization. , I have every option that the Sorento came with from the factory.

I am NOT a full time Overlander and the kia main purpose is for more localized trailing and I typically just toss in what I'm going to need for the day.

There will be a few small interior mods as needed for my longer trips I plan thougj

No idea. I purchased for $1000 from gfs mom with a bad misfire (need plugs and wires)
Drove it 2 days without the lift and tires.

With currently using my phone the speedo is spot on. I get just over 16 mpg now.

My brother in law had a 2005 Sorento and he said it was the best vehicle he ever had before it was totaled. It was powerful, could pass people on the highway with a small camper behind he said. He felt very safe in it.

Kia has a bad reputation because of their earlier model year vehicles like the original Portage and the first generation Kia Rio. What I'm finding of the way get more more experience in the American market they are building better and better vehicles where is in my opinion the American companies are going the other way. Kia and Hyundai which are joint companies are there only one still offering 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. To me that says that they intend to stand behind their product.

Every vehicle has its own set of issues and the first generation sorento like I have definitely had its fair share. What about the spring $4,000 my intentions was to beat the living crap out of it and then throw it away but I have put it through the paces and it is only one time but I have had any real mechanical issues with it and that is because I took it too deep in a waterhole and allowed water into the fuel system through the fuel tank vent hose.

I am doing more with this thing man KIA ever intended for it to do and it is putting up with me, usually I get a new vehicle every 6 months or so because I destroy them.

Because I had so much luck with this Kia I went out and bought a Hyundai Elantra for my economy car.

It is a real shame that none of the aftermarket companies picked up on these. Rocky road Outfitters make a set of rock sliders and they start making 2 inch spacer lift nobody else make anything that I have found.

That leaves a guy building pretty much everything.

Here I was thinking that the Montero was the least supported vehicle around when it comes to aftermarket, at least OME makes a lift for it the Monty.

Maybe on an lx. But not on an ex becuase of the additional trim I run 235 85 16 with 2 inch lift. Mines an ex. Some folks go 265 75 16. I added wheel spacers so had to do some trimming to my pinch welds.

Funny you mention monteros.

My plan is to attempt to put a montero locker in the rear. The internals are very close to the gen 3 monty.

If I can't I plan to swap entire rear axle in.

I'm also working on ideas for the front to stay ifs but lock it. Again monty fronts are very close to same specs so I hope I can swap internals. But may try to swap entire housing.

Planning for custom control arms and jeep liberty struts. To move knuckles forward to allow clearance for 35s with minimal lift.

I forgot about ome, they do make HD lift coils and shocks/struts for these too

Now you have my brain thinking up things my wife may not approve of, I am a fan of obscure rigs that few others really know about. Does the EX have heated leather seats?

Yes they are leather seats but heat was another option
Mine has every option except for heated seats! Even has a heated rear wiper blade, but for.some reason not seats.

It doesn't have an kia arb, becuase arb doesn't make lockers for them. They took an arb from another vehicle and modded it to fit. There is a french company that does make an air locker but they claim it won't work on u.s. models.

The guy who did the above locker will purchase and mod the arb as needed and ship to u.s.a. for 2600 American if paid up front.

No Thanks on that gamble.

Holy cow, definitely cheaper to swap in a Montero rear axle with factory locker.
