I went on a easy hike in the Angeles Forest back in November

Tried out some edged items as part of the day's activities. First was the Bahco Laplander hand saw. Barely weighs 7 ounces.
Man, this thing really sawed well through the 5"-6" diameter log!
A mil surlus pop flare pouch makes for a nice carrying case if you need one.
It is the perfect size with a close but not snug fit. Lengthwise it
has only 1/2" to spare so a lanyard makes it easy to extract the saw. Internal depth is 10". This
pouch is an older type with just a snap closure whereas later generations have a Fastex buckle and
Velcro. I think that model exposes a little of the saw whereas this version covers it completely.
Then came the ESEE-6 and I have come to really like the knife a lot. It is no longer new but the paint has held up well through batoning, hacking and whacking of various wooden objects. It holds a great edge and can be used for lots of camp activities. The hike gave me a chance for a "glamour shoot" of the knife while I hacked at the log. It is far easier to use the saw for any decent sized tree trunk or limb but it is always good to see how well your tools can fill in for other tasks.
