Look at my signature. I've owned both Toyota and Land Rover as well as Jeep, Mitsubishi. . . I loved my Hi-luxes, but both did have major problems. One with the 22RFE needed the timing chain replaced at 130K miles. Cheap plastic guides broke. The other with the V6 had the common problem with the valve guides and they had to be reshimmed at only 125K miles. My girlfriends Corolla had the timing chain housing crack and the power steering went out at 127K. Just this last week, my friends RAV4 lost its transmission at 156K and all of the warning lights are on on the dash. The bill for both repairs is 4700.00. Toyota has service and parts departments for a reason.

but all those happened over 100000 miles. If it was a rover it would be south of 100000 miles. Have you ever had your rover serviced at the dealer? It would be very expensive. You don't think land rover has a parts and service department for a reason? Your argument is invalid and you're trying to scrap the bottom of the barrel to come up with a point.toylandcruiser

Oryx, I'd love to have you explain to me why you think Land Rover suspension is better than the suspension in a Jeep or an 80-series, because it isn't. There's nothing special about radius arms.
My personal opinion of Land Rover has been soured by my dad's, which ate three of it's pistons with 130k km's on the odometer. And yes, it was a catastrophic failure with no warning given.
Your whole argument seems to be that Land Cruisers are more reliable in harsh environments than Land Rovers, but Land Rovers aren't as bad as people say they are...which somehow makes the Land Rover better. Seems strange, but these threads never really go anywhere and it's not like anyone's opinion will be swayed. Isn't it you who is always pointing out that Toyota people in the Land Rover forums must just be jealous?

I don't recall that we were comparing Land Rover suspension to that of Jeeps or 80's per se. I thought this was a thread about the 70 series. My point was that Land Rover's are reliable enough, particularly these days, where reliability isn't even an issue any more. So, there's no reason in my opinion to shy away from them for their off road performance and design over reliability concerns. I have owned and driven Toyota's lots of miles and my personal experience is that major repairs were required on those too before 150K, so I haven't seen much remarkable about them. They're fine vehicles that do the job just like any other, and need maintenance like any other in the process. That's the truth of the matter from what I've seen.
