Land Series engine conversion

Hi !

Do you have an other engine in your Series except original engine ? What engine ?

In GB they sold conversion kits for Daihatsu, Isuzu, Ford (Ford Europe). With or without turbo. In France some SIII get Mercedes 240D or Peugeot Indenor --> some Lightweigt from Dutch army converted by specialists.

In USA what engine do you put ?

Seems TDIs are more common as are simply "upgrading" to early defender 2.5 NA diesels.

Still interest in using Mercedes engines and old Chevy 4 cylinders (Iron Duke Engines). Adapter plates are available.

A few Chevy V6 engines as well.

Every once in a while someone swaps in a Chevy V8. LT1 or LS engine. However that requires a new transmission and all kinds of fiddling.

There are a handful running the Ford 302 V8 with success. Also one or two guys have Toyota 4 cylinders.

Except for Tdi's, diesels aren't common here in the US simply because the engines aren't as readily available. Also the appeal of using a chevy V8 is significant, especially if you want to use an automatic transmission. Good 4 speed autos are readily available and 6 speeds are becoming more common. Both can be had already bolted to a chevy V8. The 3rd generation and now 4th generation engines put out so much power without doing hardly anything to the engine and the EFI has pretty much been decoded and information readily available.
 
In australia , they have used Holden (GM) straight six from 161cu inch to 202cu inch , Ford 4.1 L six, and Chrysler Hemi in 245 or265 cu inch , with the occasional V8 in either ford or holden , not so much chrysler . The Rv8 has been used as well. HTSH

The Isuzu was for the Oz military iirc.
Rover V8 and Chevy straight sic was a swap that was popular in NA but these days most folks that are not swaping a LR 200tdi or not married to having a LR engine at all under the "hood" will try for a diesel, any kind of diesel, good or bad they just love oil burners.

I would always keep a 2 1/4 in a standard Series LR.

Yes. 4DB1 was the standard diesel in stage 1 series 3 and county until late eighties. The army bought a heap of them as well as a 6x6 version with a 4DB1T.

These are being demobilised now and are being auctioned off.

I remember some Land/ Range with Chevy 6.2l diesel.

I see on britain Difflock forums that original gearbox on Series < Land 110/90 don't like + 100hp engine.

Ok for big block engine but you need new gearbox, new transfert box... and new bank account ...

My question was about Land series or 90/110 before tdi, with tired or broken engine

In the old days (S1and S2) in the UK the Perkins diesel swap was popular as well swaps from contemporary Rover cars like the P4.
