I've seen some real nice custom wood carry cases in the past as well.

I just pack mine in one of my Wolf Packs. Wrap it dish towels to keep it safe. Hasn't broken yet.

I used a case ike that for years. Worked pretty well but you might consider a strap to keep the bottom (and the lantern) from falling out of the case. The two little tabs that hold the top and bottom of the case together are not great.

I agree on the blue cases and using a strap. I know some people that use a 50 cal ammo can and a towel. A friend of mine has been doing that for over 20 years.

I make my own boxes out of plywood, kind of a hobby of mine.

This one is for a 228 "big hat" but will also fit a 275 ("Turd.") :D Obviously a little different from propane but you could use a similar concept to make wood boxes for a propane lantern.

All my boxes have a V-shaped "collar rest" to keep the vent from hitting the side of the box. You can see it here inside a different box:

I bought one of the two piece Coleman lamp cases. Put the lamp in it, picked it up by the handle and the bottom immediately dropped out and broke the globe of the lamp. Thankfully I had the receipt for the case, it went straight back to the store. I've had better luck putting it into a milk crate and making sure to have soft stuff around it, though that plywood case looks pretty nifty.
