16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Santa Cruz really are nice and definitely a fan...
26er, 29er, fit is definitely important, period...
My advice is if 29er interests you then try it, if not then don't. I too was skeptical before I tried one and have owned several now. They feel great for me, especially on a touring bike it would probably be the first size I would look at because of the momentum and lack of resistance to small rocks. I also own an old Trek hybrid which is basically Trek's old purpose built touring off-road on road bike and.. It's 700c (29er) as well.
It is true that 29er works well for me and pretty much all my tall buddies ride them. That said I have plenty of friends from 5'6 & up that also ride them for the same reason. Really, a matter of preference... Awkward frame design in smaller sizes? I haven't heard too much about it, all 29ers have slightly longer chainstays but it doesn't make or break anything as far as I know...
