Here's the current truck. It's a 2002 GMC 2500HD with the 8.1L and Allison. It's got all the right factory parts, so it's fairly stock with only minor tweeks for reliability, ride comfort and communications/audio.
Here's the next truck. It's a '76 K25 (GMC 4x4 3/4 ton) with some issues. But I've been collecting the parts to swap it to a 8.1L engine mated to a NV4500/NP205 with hydroboost brakes.
Fun in the desert in Socal over the holidays (Afton Canyon). First time fording water, it was about 3 feet deep, and came over my front bumper.... yikes.....
It was all good clean fun in the snow, until she broke through 7 inch thick ice. Very cold fishing out tire size chunks of ice out from under the truck to save the oil pan.
Here is mine, a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab longbed, Cummins 5.9 HO, 6 speed manual, 4.10 posi rear end. We bought it from the original owner just over a year ago with only 101k miles. Mine is 2wd so I can't go a lot of the places you guys go. But with a posi rear end, it will get me most of the places I want to go. It came with a 5th wheel hitch, so we are debating whether to go that route or get a camper.
The photo shows a trip last year in the forests of Humboldt County, CA. We camped in the bed with an improvised bedroll and some bug netting stretched over a PVC pipe stabbed into the stake pockets in the truck bed rails. It works great and we've been very comfortable with this setup so far! :smiley_drive:
Hello, I've been following EP for some time now, but this is my first post. I've just started a project with my 1996 Suburban K2500 and an expedition/ATV hauler trailer. I purchased an M116A2 trailer locally for a good price and in good condition. It came with 37" Wrangler MT's which are the same size as the Grapplers on my suburban, so it already sits pretty level. I rebuilt the 7.4l (454) back in June/July that had 110K on it. The head gaskets and intake man gaskets were leaking and an injector was stuck when I bought it. It has run pretty good for the last 6 months or so, so time to make some changes. Also just put in all new suspension parts (Moog), along with poly bushings and solid tie rod sleeves. I just gutted the interior over the weekend except for the roof liner, I'll save that for next week. Purchased 2 full power/lumbar/heated seats out of a 99 Tahoe in great shape, just need to add a few wires to get everything working. Apparently mine only came with the base power option. Looking forward to fabbing up a full length roof basket in the next month or so for some practice, before I start in on the trailer. It will have an overhead expandable wrack with a rtt on it, as well as space for the 4 wheeler below and of course the obligatory mounted boxes, transfer tank, solar batter setup & water storage. Anyway, this is what I'm starting with.
