Long wheel base, front locker, aired down tires and 8,000lbs can do wonders.
This pic was from the Overland Rally in VT last year. Pouring rain, mud and slippery rocks. The Excursion was unstoppable. Any Defenders, Range Rovers or Discos that didn't air down could not make the muddy hill climb. Many vehicles got the strap that day.

Been running the tirgate VT on my Dodge for about a year now. No issues to date.

Do you think you could send me a few detail pics? If I could fit that and a contractors topper I'd be in heaven, even if I had to add some backer plates or something to strengthen it.

The cat seems to be doing an under the vehicle inspection....:)

It's good to see that you're particular about how much to inflate your cat.

It's nice to see someone that actually uses their fullsize Excursion on the trail. It seems everybody (from advertisers to jeepers) bashes on it because of its size, so to see one pulling the "Best 4by4by far" is a treat for my eyes. As for airing down, it does wonders for traction.

Yeah, there's a family in my neighborhood that scored a nearly stock 7.3 Excursion. They installed a quality mild lift and 35"s and hopefully upgraded the brakes. I told the owner,"This is your retirement". They use it during sand season in Ocotillo.

I like the diesel glacier Excursions in Iceland, they just look cool on big ol' tires and a nice leather interior makes it nice. If my wife would drive a full size vehicle (she refuses to drive my truck because its too big) and an Excursion got better gas mileage it would be a perfect family car.
