That's a Bronco, to me. I understand that the original came about because of Ford's involvement in Jeep development. I also understand that Chevy got in the same game by simply modifying their pickup to create the Blazer, and by '78, Ford had switched from Jeep-ish design to basing the Bronco off the pickup, as Chevy had. So by the time I was 10 until I was punching 30, the Bronco was a truck, not a Jeep. So I'm partial to it this way. Here is our Bronco :

Furthermore, Jeep didnt really embrace that 7 slot grill as a specific design feature until the mid to lat 1990's. Other Jeep SUVS had different number if slots. The original run of the ZJ Grand Cherokee had 8, for example. It wasn't until the half-run redress that it dropped to, and stated at 7 slotsKind of.
The IH Scout wasf aimed at Jeep which by then was kind of a street legal version of todays side by side. Scout was a working utility vehicle but was a hair more civilized. So after watching the Scout succeed for a couple years Ford decided to the counter the Scout so they whipped together the Bronco.

Willys and Ford did get into a legal battle after the war as Ford had done a lot of advancing to the Jeep (down to designing the much simplified grille they are still so proud of) over who got to keep the final product. Willys ended up with Jeep but had to change the number of slots in the grille from 9 to 7.
I got to spend a few days in the Ozark National Forest recently with my boy. Always wonderful to spend time in God's Creation with my son!
