I've just got two Hella 500's on the bullbar. Might sound strange but I don't like too much light. I had Hella 1000's on as well but removed them.

No pics handy, but I have a pair of IPF 968s on my bumper. They are great lamps. They blow away the Hella 500s and even the Hella 1000 Eurobeams in terms of brightness and quality of beam pattern (comparison done with 100 watt bulbs in the 968s and 1000s.) They are a great value.

However, the Hella 1000s look mean as heck on any rig. :yikes:

Finally got my last two lights mounted on the bumper. These are Hella 700FF's. converted to HID. Also the 4 Hella 4000's up top are HID converted, and two Hella 550's in the back for reverse lights.

I love good lighting, its so much nicer than without...

(yeah, im stuck....)

Except for certain atmospheric situations, I have yet to find a time when there was "too much light" available while driving. Depends entirely on what you want to do in the dark.

Vision X HID's up front, plus two Hella 500 fogs. The Hella's have a protective pad over them, which doubles as a step.

Up top are four Hella 500 driving lights. Because of all the reflective glare off the hood, they don't get much use.

In back are a couple Hella Matador worklamps: one to facilitate trailer coupling, the other (not visible here) illuminating the fuel fillers and a fold-down shelf on the right side.

Here's my Hella Black Magic lights I just installed last week. Switched the bulbs from 55w to 100w. The distance and brightness with the 100w is pretty impressive!

Stumptaco, got any details on your Hella 4000 to HID conversion???

Here's my post on TTORA

http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82281

repost for those who want to know how it's done

I've been wanting to install HID driving lights, but the Hella HID's are way too expensive. I decided to try one of those inexpensive kits off ebay. For $80 it was worth the gamble.....
As for construction it seems well made, but there was no label to say where they were produced.

Edit* they are made in Japan......

Installing bulbs was a simple plug n' play

Since the kit came with grommets, I decided to drill a new hole into the housing, this way I still have the option to use standard H1 bulbs....

Ballast mounted, double sided tape that was supplied with the kit plus I added a hose clamp for extra hold down. Spliced and soldered wiring....

Here's what they look like now......

I just installed the same kit w/ my Hella 4000's. I didn't want to cut the new hole in the housing so I ran the wires through the existing cutout and sealed it with silicone:

Thanks BruceTS for the helpful write-up. The kit was pretty much plug & play. The hardest part was figuring out a secure spot for the ballasts. I'm happy with the results and it's a nice improvement over the stock Hella's. Hard to beat for $80!

There ya go, its the same thing that I did. I opted to drill the extra hole, but either way its easy enough to do, and the difference is worth EVERY penny.

I will never own another halogen driving/auxiliary light, the HID's are that much better. Now with these conversion kits its actually affordable too!
