license plate mount / setup

Silly question, where is everyone mounting their license plates....

Maybe some photographs as well...

Looking for some ideas....

I found taillights that had a plate mount on them.

I mounted mine hanging from my bumper, using a door hinge, to try to avoid bending it if it hit something.

I installed recessed lights on my CJ and needed a plate light so I got a billet aluminum plate frame from the street rod guys with the license plate light built in. It's rugged and looks sweet. It's on a flat surface so it's fine as is. I hung the one on my car trailer on a stainless piano hinge and a piece of flat SS to re-enforce the plate. It has taken a serious beating since the trailer is so low. Where do you need to mount to?

I did this too untll I looked at it and a breeze blew and it broke off. lol (really it just hit something on the trail) Now, I just drilled holes and monted it to the back.

Oregon requires front plates and I've had adventures trying to find good places.

One the Sprinter, I couldn't think of anything better than to mount it directly to the steel bumper:

On the ex-Adventureduo Cruiser, Dave had already solved the problem by mounting to the roof rack:

On the XV-JP, I don't see anything practical to do except put the front license on one of those plates that inserts into the winch fairlead. Not ideal, but there's not any space left on the bumper. I'll check some Jeep forums for other ideas.

A quick note, the license plate must be illuminated, so technically attaching it to the tailgate with no illumination is not quite legal.

It's unusual to have the license plate mounted on the passenger side of the trailer, it's more frequent to have it on the drivers side. I don't have the book of State and Federal regulations in front of me so I can't comment on if it's legal or not.

At http://www.adventuretrailers.com/homebuilder.html we offer the " Submersible Combination Light " it is all LED and can be packaged with brackets and license plate holder. With this set up the plate is designed to go on the rear driver side.

I think this is how I am going to mount mine with a LED license plate light.

Put rubber grommets behind the plate to stop it wearing the paint off the tailgate.

I took the strips that they use to seal camper shells and ran them across the back of my plate before I stuck it to the fiberglass. It worked well too.

I figured for the price, I can't really go wrong..... even if I have to modify the light.
