The excuse that "everybody's doing it" won't keep you from substantial fines if and when the RIAA wants to press charges. At the very least, using unlicensed music will get your video pulled off Youtube if the copyright owner complains.
Vimeo, a company that hosts personal videos, now offers a solution. In a partnership with Audiosocket, Vimeo now offers a library of music that budding producers can license to use in their videos. The price per track is $2 for personal use, and $98 for a commercially produced video. More information here
