Lifting a Scamp Trailer?

So I have an appointment set up with a fabricator here in LA. Seems like we are on the same page as to what I plan to do. This is a rough idea of what I want to do, better suspension and a platform for my 640 Adv.

for the next person that goes looking:

a 3" lift with bolt on parts. bigger tires to go further in and really rattle apart that fiberglass!

Having been around fiberglass for the last 40+ years, unless the owner plans on doing drop tests with his Casita, the fiberglass will hold up fine on any trail it can actually fit on (lets not forget the "beam" on this rig). Every product has its limits. The OP has already stated that this isn't intended for the Rubicon, etc. Why ya bashing an idea that is perfecting in keeping with the intended use?

Not sure if I get your point. I do have an old Casita fiberglass trailer with the said 3" lift and so far have not had any problems.

Please explain ...

not ripping on OP's idea…i'm actually considering this for a family rig. I found that link to an additional lift and even shocks -- if that works well and a Casita holds up to miles and miles of washboard i'd be stoked, as the Casita would be warmer/cooler in the winter/summer than something else. And much more family friendly when we all travel, but could still head off the beaten path for fishing, exploring, etc.

to The Swiss -- can you point to pics/threads of your Casita's axle lift and/or a review? thanks much.

First time on a 4x4 forum?;) He's lucky that thing doesn't have a dana 35 axle!

I looked hard for a decent Scamp to do just this, but had no luck and went with a cargo trailer

i know this is a old thread but i had a 1973 boler 13 ft and was to low to pull with my truck with out draging the back of the boler on the ground as we drove. so we did what you are talking about. it turned out to be more like 6 inches of lift . took a 6500lb axle off an old boat trailer was the right width we needed and leaf springs as well. needed to widen the frame of the trailer a bit for the leaf springs to be welded on. and if your not going fast on the dirt roads.... the fiber glass heald up just fine. in the end.....i ened up folding the frame in half just under the front bunk on last years trip. so i would make a new frame first which would be easy.
