Lightforce HID conversion (Lots of Pics)

Here are the filters I have: Clear (stock), clear and yellow combo, and dispersion (which I believe are slightly wider than the "wide" filters)

I think that the dispersion filter is more of a "up and down AND side to side" filter. More of a "Lets light up the whole campsite!" idea. My thought is to have the right light get a Wide angle "fog" lens and have it adjusted fairly close. And then have the left light get the "combo" lens and use it for a Driving light. Am I on the right track?

My plan is to add a third 170 which will be mounted in the center and will be on a seperate switch. This one will be aimed as a spot light, centered and far, while the sides will be combo's filling in the side and slightly closer. That way if I get in fog/snow/rain, I can turn off the center spot and run yellow combos on the sides.
I will try to get some pics tonight. I have one pic of the combos but they are too close together so you kind of lose the pattern in the middle. Here's the pic, you can see where it keeps a center "spot" and throws a wide flat beam to the sides of the spot. I'll cover one of the lights so that you see what just one looks like.

My thought was to have each light on its own seperate switch. I want to be able to use these lights ON road......I rarely am off road at night.
I plan to start off the testing/aiming with the 'fog' light set as wide as possible without a 'hole' in the pattern and then put the wide angle lens on and aim it low enough that I can use it with on-coming traffic.
The driving light will be set to be a much better high beam using the combo lens.

^^Ahh, with 2 switches, then yes your idea should work out well. My concern would be how well the fog light would work in dense fog since the light is originating from higher, even though it will be aimed low. Although, I think that would only happen in extreme situations.

Rexsname, here are shots of the beam pattern of one 170 with a combo filter and the light was adjusted to full spot before installing the cover, the wall is about 40ft. away. There is a bunch of ambient light but you can still tell the beam pattern:

I forgot to do the dispersion filters, but I threw them on when I got back home and they are definately throw the light everywhere, not just side to side. They look like they will work great for tight trails though.

I run my 170's with one as a spot and one as a "flood" pattern, along with my ipf headlights and upgraded bulbs. I never thought of having a third light in the center to use just a spot though. I use the blue filter for snow (and I must say it really does work well), unfortunately I have not ahd reason to use the yellow's for fog just yet.

) was my Smith slider sunglasses with changeable lenses. Changing the color of the lenses really helped with dealing with the dawn light where it was really hard to see the contours in the snow. I am considering doing this HID conversion on my set of 170's, and I want to use the yellow and blue lenses because I drive in a lot of snow and fog. So I'm wondering because HID's have a more white/blueish light output, will the yellow and blue lenses not be as effective or useful after the HID conversion?
