So would everyone agree on the fact that having a

DETROIT TRUETRAC in the rear...
and
EATON E-LOCKER (selectable) in the front would be a great way to go???:coffee:

I have the manual 6 spd, in 5th gear @ 55 mph am turning around 2850 rpm, then in overdrive i am turning approx 2500 rpm, best mpg I have gotten is around 15.5 miles to gallon loaded towing my trailer.
Also my crawl ratio has improved for the trail, and I have better power when I need it.

This will work well, able to select the front on and off as needed so as to be able to make tight turns on the trail,

Per personal experience...

my 528 BMW (2.8L engine) get worse fuel mileage then my previous 530 (3.0L)... :(

simple...
bigger engine... easier for it to pull the same weight...

same with ratio... at 4.88, engine works at less load then at 4.56...

and as always,,, expedition / 4x4 jeep is not always ment for 75+ mph speeds...:ylsmoke:

Eaton E-Locker

Would like to hear some feedback on E-Locker by EATON...

I've read a bunch on ARB... and some of the negative things that come from that were:

1. Necessity of installing an air compressor (Not that I say I need one, but CO2 tank sounds rather nicer)
2. Possibly higher damage risk of the air supply line
3. Condensation issues in the lines
4. Compressor going bad
5. More difficult to install then other lockers
6. etc...etc..etc...

OX sounds also rather nice, but i think installing an electrical switch for the e-Locker would be a lot easier task than a cable lever...

Nikson, to compare notes you should wade through the subject on NAXJA. It is a big forum and lots of XJ experience. Like Mud or Pirate, they have their share of flame dealers and crackpots. If you go in stealthy and search subject posts you can quickly differentiate solid advice from the poseurs. There's a lot to be said for advice from people with first hand Cherokee experience. We're very lucky here to have our 10-15 super credible XJ owner/operators that share tons of experience and good advice but scanning other boards and climates to cross-check ideas, concepts and experiences is always a good idea. A larger cross section of opinion just adds confidence.

Thats kind of why I stay away from NAXJA. I was a member there several years ago until one day I asked an honest question and all I got was "Don't do that, thats stupid!" and similar replies. Not too warm of a welcome.....

I've nothing but good things come from NAXJA - but mostly because I try to meet the people I'm talking to...through the meets or trail runs. After their last Johnson Valley event, I pretty much get advice from people I talked to out there with tricked out rigs.

On here: Momrocks is right, there is a solid group of people with good XJ experience that I trust when they shed light on an issue.

To mix/match... NAXJA site's info is to scrambled, and too many people expressing their opinion, where I personally get a feeling that tooo many guys there are young and just "spit" with words that they dont really have much idea on, others make sense. Mostly in order to answer your particular question, they try to convince a guy that he is simply making a wrong choice and not really giving solid facts on why...

just my .05c (yes... not just .02c) :)

Agree. The forums at NAXJA have been over run with 16 year old kids with big ideas/mouths and no money. You have to really search deep to get good information there. It's almost at the point where it is pointless.

There is still some good stuff there but the signal to noise ratio is way too low to be bothered with a lot of times IMO.

I guess every marque specific site goes through this.

I went ahead and got back in NAXJA and am going to give it another try and see if I can filter out the noise.

That was sort of my point as well...

Also, I believe NAXJA site is for more of the "wheeler" type drivers, rather then exploration type...

In reality, to WHEEL your rig, you want to drop you gear ration as low as you can, selectable lockers front/rear, lock the transfer case, throw in the 2LO option, and trailer your rig everywhere you go...

Well, I am looking for a different advice here... my Jeep drives on pavement probably +/-60% of the actual trip, and -/+40% is the actual "off-road", so the options on the lockers have to be different and considerations are different as well...

For one, I dont need a roll cage, but frame stiffeners have been considered.

Yea - my street manners went out the window with the Aussie locker int he rear, but it was affordable. Roll cage? I'll get one at some point because I like to go fast in the desert...I've seen too many rollovers where the pillars just don't hold up...I like my dome.
