The mileage increase is probably because of the same streamlining tonneau covers and camper shells add. Good to hear, and hope it works.

That's sort of what I'm thinking.

Not weird at all, many people have done it with similar results as you. In fact, on our last trip the owner of the Tacoma with a RTT told me that he lowered his to match the roofline and now there's less wind drag, much better MPGs as a result and probably better aerodynamics than with an empty bed.

Yeah, I expected it to make a positive difference, I just didn't expect it to make that large a difference. I'm very impressed with the change. Having the tent on the tall rack vs the short rack is a 4-5 mpg difference.

On that note, I got the third Yakima crossbar setup installed. Seems much more stable, although still a bit bouncy going down the road. That being said, the bed on my truck seems more "jiggly" than I'm used to, so I'm sure most of it is that.

So, I've gotten hold of Outback Proven, the US distributor for Kaymar. The guy I talked to is currently out at the NW Overland Rally, so he told me to send him the part number and he'd have a price for me by Monday. If it's not absolutely atrocious, that's the way I'll go. Originally I wasn't sure if I wanted to run the Kaymar because I had planned to put a Hi-Lift mount on the rear. Today I found out that my Hi-Lift fits quite nicely behind the rear seat. :)

Found some pics of the bumper, I think it looks fantastic. I also like how it provides some rocker panel protection.

I like it a lot...except may be the corners- that round tube hangs a bit low but I guess they did it to match the roundish body lines in that area. Their quality is also supposed to be top notch. For a comprison, who else makes rear bumpers for your truck and how do they look? ARB, Shrockworks...

I see that round tube as a form of protection for the rear quarter panel. With sliders on, it should make more sense visually. I really don't like the way they cut the end of the bumper though. The round cut is really out of place aesthetically, unless it conforms to the actual body itself that I cannot see from the pictures.

Yeah, it does look a bit low, but I believe that the departure angle is still better than stock. I'd like having the rocker protection too.

Nobody else makes a swingout bumper for it. Well okay, Tactical Armor Group does, but their quality is horrible and wait times are even worse than Shrock. So that leaves Calmini, Shrock, and ARB.

I'm not a big fan of the prerunner style of the Calmini.

The Shrockworks is a nice bumper, and it's got about the same departure angle as the Kaymar. I could buy the Shrock and add some swing arms to it, but the bumper is $710 in bare steel, plus shipping, plus powder coating, plus the swing arm parts... Also, there's the wait times.

Then there's the ARB. And well, I'll let that speak for itself.

Sort of my thoughts.

That round cut follows the body line. If you look at it from the side it makes perfect sense. Well, to me anyway. :)

Call me old school but I like the Shrock bumper the best with Kaymar close behind...and the others not even in the same ball park.

So if wait times is an issue Kaymar is an easy choice.

No, I hear you there. I agree that the Shrock is a really nice looking bumper, but I'd really love to have the swingouts. A place to store a jerry can that isn't in the bed and the ability to carry a second spare would be great. Also, I'll be honest, I love the way those kinds of bumpers look. :D I also really like the more rounded profile of the Kaymar on this truck. There's not a lot of hard lines on it, and the Kaymar sort of mirrors that. As a plus, the Kaymar offers more rocker protection.

Wait times on the Shrock are around 3-4 months. Even if it takes Outback Proven a month to get a container with a Kaymar in it, it's still better.

Agreed the shrock is nice. Do you need the wngouts? What size tire does the. Stock location hold?

The ARB is unecesarly ugly....

ARB made that one?? Good grief that is hideous! Yeah i would think the kaymar would look good with sliders of some sort. The shrock is nice sure but that would probably be the most popular one so the kaymar would be a cool thing. As far as anything it has that you dont like... Just a heads up you will notice it constantly. There are things about the bumpers and drawers I notice all the time because of them being off in a little ticky-tack way. I bet once you get it all jazzed up with tires and jerry can and bling out back, you wont be looking at the sides I bet.

Do I need the swingouts? No, not really. I'm not planning on anything larger than the stock size tire for the Nismos. I could probably find a place to put a fuel can too. So to be honest, it's not an absolute necessity. It's sort of an aesthetic thing to me. I just like it. It's something I've always loved. I love the look, and the versatility it offers is pretty nice. But mostly, I just really like the look and want a swingout bumper :D

I do plan on putting sliders on it, so it would kind of match.

That's another thing. The Shrock is pretty popular, so you see them all the time. I don't think there's a Frontier in the US that has a Kaymar. So I think that'd be pretty cool.

I've had enough aftermarket bumpers on to know that if I got something I wasn't totally happy with, it would really annoy me. Remember the bumper debacle on Nancy? :) I'm not really worried about it with the Kaymar, because there really isn't anything on it I don't like.

I hope it works out ... that's a nice bumper.

Me too! Just looking at pricing for now so I can get an idea for the final plans.

I'm interested in the price of the kaymar especially now that I have effed my bumper.

Stay tuned, I should have a number by Monday. I'll let you guys know as soon as I know. Oh, and if you don't want/need the swingouts, you can buy just the bumper without them. It does have the two spindles for the swingouts still, but those could be cut off if you really didn't want them. Or, if you're like me and like that bit of "expo bling", then obviously it looks cool with the swingouts too :D

I would really love the Gerry can mounts. I pull a trailer often so any weight aft of the axel counts as tongue weight. But a swing out would be rad. I would be surprised if they quoted you less than 3grand.
