Steel wool my friend. Just take the shine off. CLEAN them really well and make sure they are completly dry. I used an air compressor with a blow tip to get all the water out of the rim/tire brad area. You can also wipe it down with somr prepsol or prime with Pitbull (not sure, may only be for plastic).

Were your rims chrome before you painted em? I saw a few places online that detail using sandpaper, and then using an etching primer to really get paint to stick, I might try that, but I have a feeling that it'll be a lengthy job, so I might have to wait for my summer break to do it, as I'm pretty swamped with school right now, and I'm reserving my spring break either for a road trip, or to build my storage system in the back, but we'll see, if I end up doing the storage, I might have some time left over to paint em....

Mine were silver. You don't need to take it to bare metal, just take the shine off so the paint has something to adhear to. I did mine in @ 4hrs and @$20. I got wheel specific paint from pepboys. It has been pretty durable so far. Meant for high temp and puts up with brake dust and wheel cleaner chems. $8 a can. 1 can got me 2 wheels , 2 coats inside and out.

Sweet, thanks for the input, I'll have to check out pepboys when I decide to do this.

Check my build thread. I did the tire painting.

For quick reference:

Sanded
Etching Primer
Two coats of paint
about a Million coats of clear coat protectant.

Haven't lost a chip yet. Overall it cost me about $45 ... and the "time" it took was all day for all five tires. Nothing a few friends and some beer can't pass, though.

Hey, I've tried to figure this out, but couldn't, is there a way to change the title of a thread? I wanted to turn this thread in to my build thread, if I can't change it I'll start another one, was just curious.
