Find a 94/95 D1. OBD1, so no worries for emissions testing in most states (idk how it is by you), and they are dead simple. Few sensors here and there like every other computer controlled EFI on the planet, but it has a standard-issue ignition coil and distributer... no funky computer controlled ignition. OBD1 codes are easy to read, because there is an LCD under the passenger seat that shows you the code, you look up the two digit number and there is your problem. Yea, it still can have weird electrical issues, but all of those that I have come across were due to dirty/bad connections. The RAVE (shop manual) is amazing... With electrical problems it literally tells you how to diagnose it. It says, step 1 test for 12v here, turn ignition on, if this go here if not go here and if this happens this is broken or that ground is bad. It's easier to figure out an issue in these trucks with that manual than it is to figure out a simpler car without a manual.
I'm not telling you what to do, but I am in love with this truck. There are two types of people on this board... one is the type who doesn't mind spending money and having someone else outfit/fix their rig. Those types of people are the ones who go nuts about Rovers being insanely expensive. I don't mind digging into a truck and DIYing it, and D1s ARE cheaper in that sense. D2 parts are more complicated and thus more expensive. When it comes to overall reliability, sure, a Rover isn't a Toyota. But I've seen more broken IFS Tacomas with their guts laying on the trail on the front page of this board in the past couple months than I've seen ones working
