I don't think its the folks from dweb who came "en masse" who threaten to worsen it.
I didn't come from Dweb, I came from Atlanta. ;)
I, in fact, used to post on Dweb, but I read and post on about 10 or so Land Rover specific forums, but would no doubt have been here first if I'd known about it. So I'm not sure which one I'm "from". My first thought when I came across it was "DANG! How could I not know about this site?!"
I was thrilled when I learned about the start of Overland Journal. I'd been waiting for a magazine like that since Adventure Travel quit publishing in the early-mid 90's and this site obviously would have filled a gap.
But the first Rover specific forum I joined was the LRO mailing list around '95.
I even remember posts from TerriAnn Wakeman asking about how to do things on her 109. We've all come a long way since then, and learned a lot.

I do try to stay respectful of others' opinions, but will be the first to admit I get frustrated at times and let that frustration show when opinions morph in to "facts". My apologies for that. I'll endeavour to do better.

edit to add:
when opinions morph in to "facts"
Actually it's not so much even that as much as it is statements attributed to me that aren't accurate and/or things I say taken out of context. But that's the nature of the medium I suppose and it's up to me to deal with it in a mature way.

I actually think the parallel is a good one.
That's good. Though, I think the Adventure is more like an LR3 and the Super Enduro more like a D1. There's a time and place for both machines. It is the Adventure that is my dream bike, even though I know it's limitations.

Exciting stuff - not only did we get to see some of the most exciting rallying in the world, but also recovered quite a few rolled cars and bikes from way down the sides of mountains. Back in those days, the Sani Pass hairpins had most of the 109s having to reverse at each bend!

Yeah, I loved doing recovery at a rally this winter. Best seats in the house, and I was getting paid to drive the course! I had fun towing a factory Subaru (Pat Richard) down off an icy mountain stage with a tow line. He was supposed to do all the braking to keep the line taught, but I think a few times he didn't really *get* how slow the truck needs to go around some of the bends.

I think this thread has run its course (and several other courses).

I giggle when people say that their way is the "correct" way to do something. "Correct", or "best", or similar descriptions are very subjective things. It really depends on a variety of factors- environment, experience, and resources among them.

We'll never settle the new vs old, Luddite vs Technogeek (my terms) battle here on an internet forum. Sorry that's beyond the capabilities of the medium. All we can do is put forth our opinion in a logical and supported manner, while choosing a tone that is respectful of the other members of this forum. If you can't do that, please refrain from posting here.

That's all I'm going to say about that.
