Ive read though that before too. They might help a small car or a light jeep on hard packed snow or something. Put the weight of one of your wheels on that in deep snow or soft sand and that thing would disappear. Since your going solo and don't have a winch. take a couple straps, shackles, and a hilift and use that as a come-a-long, or poor mans winch.

Good point. I should have said that I'll be taking my hi lift, straps, ratchets and shackles with me. My though would be to use this in a situation where a road was previously plowed but has additional snow. You're right, I'd need a Maxtrax style device would be needed for "snow bashing" type stuff.

I'm going on a "Winter Moose Photo Safari" this weekend up in State Forest State Park (Walden, CO). This will be a solo trip and I wanted to have a little more than just a shovel, since Walden is getting 8-13" of snow tonight and tomorrow. So, as I was cruising through Costco, I saw these and picked one up.

It's not the highest quality product, I'm sure. But, at $19.99, it's cheap and will probably be better than nothing! Has anyone used these Mr. Emergency traction devices before?

Stay safe, they seem to keep adjusting storm totals. I had been wanting to spend the weekend in Steamboat but after deciding we wouldn't leave tonight due to weather, we've bagged the trip. Might hit up the Seven Mile Creek area but who knows.

^Thanks for the heads up. It looks like Walden will get about 8" tonight but only 3" or so tomorrow. I'll keep my eyes on the forecast and, hopefully, I'll have a good weekend trip and won't have to use any recovery gear!

Wow, snow and blizzards. And here I am scheduled for 75° and sunny. I think I'll keep mine. Stay safe out there.

Yeah, we got over a foot here in Walden and it was -15° f this morning! As for the Mr. Emergency traction tracks, I used them to recover a 5th gen yesterday and they worked great.

It's hard to see in the first pic but he was high centered in the snow. I shoveled a clearing in front of the tires and threw a track down. Here's a pic of the scene i took the next day.

Not bad for $20!

Poor little 'Yota, how embarrassing. How long are the pads, and do they connect together?

The guys in the Yota were a little embarrassed... but they were pretty scared too. They were from Texas and weren't familiar with snow
They had resigned themselves to sleeping in the car that night. Not a great idea in -15 weather. They were even more uneasy when I told them about the 3 Bull Moose that were about 1/4 mile further in. Long story short, they were glad to get out of there.

The traction tracks are 28" long but they dont connect together. Honesty, I wish I bought 2 instead of just 1!

could probably link a few together with some paracord in a pinch.

That's a great idea. You could easily do that, if you needed a longer stretch of track.

I'll try to put together a quick trip report in the next day or two. Long story short, temps were between -20 and 7 degrees, there was about 2" of ice on all the roads and 8" snow on the trails.... and the Waggy did awesome, never skipping a beat! Plus, we saw 13 Moose over the course of 2 days!

More to come...

Fixed the 4 Runner picture. Also, I posted a full report of my trip in the Adventure reports section, for anyone interested.
