Lumpskie's 1989 Grand Wagoneer Build

And I'm getting ready to cut my lawn...

Yeah, this storm took some folks by surprise. Between my house and the office, there were at least 8 cars stuck on the side of the road. Some were stuck there for 3 or 4 days! I towed the manager of our local Sonic over 3 miles to get her to work. She had just moved from Texas and her Silverado was only 2wd. As I was towing here, a Pepsi truck started to spin on the road. When the Isuzu Rodeo behind it over reacted, it spun into the ditch and got stuck. That was a crazy morning!

I fertilized before this storm hit. The grass that is exposed is nice and green. The rest of it in the front yard, south facing, should be uncovered by Wednesday- just in time for it to snow again!

That is exactly what I was thinking! But, it looks like rain this morning... we'll see if any snow follows..

Yet another great Waggy build on here. The more builds i read on here the more i want to get my hands on a Wagoneer.

Thanks, Darkrider. It's funny, the more I drive the Waggy, the more I like it. Honestly, I can't rationalize why I like this rig so much. I just like driving it. It's pretty slow, only gets 13 mpg, only runs 30" tires and isn't the most nimble vehicle. But, it's like a good will ambassador every time I go out in it. People come up and want to look at it and talk about it... even non-car type people. It's got a cool retro/vintage feel when I drive it and I have to admit... I'm kind of liking the fake wood paneling! The D44s front and rear are nice, the interior space is great and it does better than I could have imagined off road. Now, I'm becoming somewhat obsessed with the idea of towing an Airstream behind it...

I say, if you run across a decent example, you should buy it and give the Wagoneer thing a try!

I love the waggy! I'm sure I've said this before, but if something should ever happen to the ZJ, a Waggy is in my future, possibly with a 4/6bt for a long term goal, lol.

Keep up the good work.

Good to see somebody that actually knows how to drive a Jeep. I can barely stand the mall crawling posers that throw several thousands at their Jeep and it never sees anything like mud, dirt or snow. I'm sure I will piss somebody off but I think I will also be the guy that will be up there in my '61 Willys that will winch your sorry butt out. My 3B will run over 85mph with the v6 and my old MB, I don't know With the V6 in it, the speedo stopped at the pin at zero. I can only guess it was about 110 mph. I was young and crazy when I drove that MB.

I can def understand that from driving my '84 Chevy C10...The thing is beat to hell but it still gets a lot of attention especially when someone gets a look under the hood and sees the Olds 350 under there instead of a Chevy engine. I am most likely going to keep my eye out for either a Wagoneer or its Cherokee sibling.

A lot of it depends on if you know how to drive in snow. I can do it in 12 inches of snow in a 2WD Volvo. My father could get around in 14 inches of snow in his '62 2wd suburban.

Wow, I've never heard of a C10 with an Olds motor... how'd you end up with that configuration?!

I miss my EVO :(
Good eye! :)

As I was wrenching on my suburban this weekend I couldn't help but miss my waggys. This old chevy's body is about gone thanks to rust. Then I started adding up how much money has been put into keeping it on the road and I got a little depressed. The frame and drive train (3/4 ton, 4x4) are fine...the body, not so much.
Then I sort of had an epiphany. I remembered some pics of Argentine full size jeeps, basically wagoneer bodies with pickup beds..
When we get settled in colorado (springs area) and I get a garage set up I will eventually take your advice. I'll look for a halfway decent waggy to graft with a J-truck or flatbed and drop it all on my suburban frame.
I hope. :)
This is sorta what it should, hopefully, look like.

I got the truck with the engine in it. It was originally equipped with a 305 and sometime during its life it got a 1975 Olds 350 Rocket with a 4 barrel dropped into it.

Those rigs remind me of this guy:

That's a unique and cool setup. It's extra funny to me because you often find Wagoneers swapped with a SBC instead of the AMC 360 in them... you own a chevy and have in Olds instead!

Funny you say that...I have a 1982 6.2L Detroit Diesel and have kicked around the thought of dropping it into a full size jeep many times. Well that or a CJ7. Right now im on the fence about what im doing with the Chevy. There are times i want to lower it and have a nice street truck..then there are moments i think about throwing in a locker in the rear diff and putting some nice AT type tires under it in the stock size to have a good all round rig. Right now the second idea is winning as it allows me to pull my 20ft Fleetwood Prowler camping trailer. It would be this same trailer i would be towing behind a Wagoneer if i find a good one.

Where'd you pull that Detroit from? I'm with you, a nice torquey diesel tow rig sounds really handy to me right now.
