M100 Jeep trailer Project

I picked up a M100 Jeep trailer in Oct 07 And I have been working on it when I can and not so cold. It needs some work as it did not have a back to it.
No tailgate and the sides where floppy. I welded in a Jeep CJ7 Tailgate.

I'm building a axle for my M100. The M100 axle was replaced when I picked it up looks like it was done a long time ago. I'm building a new axle for it.
Can anyone tell me the measurment from back of spindle to back of spindle?
I've got one spindle tacked on right now to a 48" piece of 3/8" wall pipe.
Waiting on the size before welding on the other side.

Great looking trailer! Do you have more pictures of how you put in the CJ7 Tailgate? Or just more detailed pictures of what it looks like? I want to do this to my Willys MBT eventually.

M100 with CJ7 Tail gate

I'm sorry I don't. I should have taken more. But what I did was use
Crown Automotive Stainless hinges smaller then factory and won't rust.
The back was all ready missing so all I did was fit it up and drill the holes for the hinges. Then I welded some 2" flat stock on top of the tailgate and then
round stock to complete the look. I have 1" stock as my posts on both sides.
and used bolts to hold the steel rope that holds up the tailgate. I also had to
weld a piece on the inside to make it look better and stronger. Then I welded in little filler pieces on both sides. I still want to clean it up better come spring
or a warmer day. I also paln on painting the Jeep letters off white.I think It will look great from the back with a camo vinyl tarp.And how cool with the Jeep letters there.

I like that CJ tailgate modification. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see every vintage trailer cut up for a tailgate, but in your case the rear was already cut anyway and the CJ tailgate made a nice addition. Nice work.

Thanks yes mine was allready cut out. So I could have got a new back but
that would have cost more money and there where parts already missing off mine. So I went with the CJ7 tailgate. I'd tell people not to cut them out.

I tacted the other spindle on and will soon arc weld the spindles on both sides. I'm bidding on a camo tarp for my M100 on Ebay. nice price. I have to go and get the Ubolts, then remove the junk GM 2"box tube axle.Slide in place and measure the new axle saddles and weld.

CJ7 tailgate on a M100

Here is a picture of my M100 with a CJ7 tailgate. I still need to touch up the metal. Working on the new axle right now.

Nice trailer. What kind of wheels are they?

Someone took out the M100 axle and replaced it with a back yard mess
2" box tubing with round U bolts. not good
Those are GM rims. I'm welding CJ spindles on an axle tube and it will take 6 bolt hubs and CJ rims.

once the weather gets nice up hear in the northeast I can really go to town.
The inside of the bed needs to be sanded and painted ,not bad for it's age.

Thats not bad at all for something from the "rust belt" north east. I was thinking about using herculiner on the inside of my M416. Not sure if I'll go that route or not.

Thanks, Yes the rust belt LOL, Got a Camo tarp on order and I have to sand down the inside when the weather gets better it snowed today. I have to finish welding the hub to the axle and I hope to start setting it up soon.
