though I decided to hold off on the hi-lift jack, I will be adding it to my inventory for my trip to Alaska. I did not realize there was so much debate about it but Im going to study the instructions, check out youtube video demonstrations and really get a feel for this device.

It is a great tool but you can easily hurt yourself if you use it incorrectly. The good news is that it is very simple in operation and quite easy to learn. The most important thing is to watch a video or two and read a little bit about the safety precautions you should take with it and then practice in your driveway before needing it out on a trail. You don't want to be figuring out how it works when it is 5 degrees out and you are hung up on a rock in an off-camber spot.

Again I already have diff guards and beefy mud terrain tires and my 2004 does have a functional diff lock so I should be all set now!

You need some sort of mount to mount the antenna to the truck. I like this one, but there are a ton out there.

Agreed about the HI-Lift jack. I watched a couple videos where they discuss how using a hi-lift jack incorrectly and result in a broken jaw among other things.... the most dangerous aspect of using the jack in my opinion is when lowering the vehicle back down, your suppose to quickly release your hands and pull away as the large handle starts swinging up and down violently. Apparently its common to have a slip of the hands....

As for the antenna, yes you are right. Im planning on installing the unit directly behind my spare tire on the cargo door. I have to figure out which mount setup will be compatible with that location. I prefer to use a mount VS drilling new holes.

The handle should never, ever swing up and down violently if you are using it correctly. From what I have seen, this happens when someone is in the process of lowering a vehicle and either A) isnt paying attention to what they are doing, B) they let go of the handle by mistake while its not in the latched/upright position, or C) the jack has been poorly maintained and is rusty/not greased, rarely used.

Try purchasing from Viking, or RN. Quality is important. FWIW, I carry a towing strap and a kinetic "yanker" strap. Don't forget a couple quality shackles too.

emailed in my waiver a few days ago. Curious if Bruce sends out a confirmation? Are there limits of how many trucks can attend?

for CB radios, I purchased my gear from www.rightchannelradios.com. They offer a few kits that will get you up and running. plenty of videos going over items they sell.

I submitted my completed registration form via email to Bruce a couple days ago, so far I have not received a confirmation either. But its still early. When do you guys typically reserve your rooms at Best Western? I called BW in Waterville the other day and they said its $55 per night for participants in this years Winter Romp. I think Im going to reserve my room next week and get it out of the way.

Thanks for the link. I already ordered all my CB equipment save the antenna mount and some extra wire to extend the power cable to the battery.

Romp is pretty informal. Don't expect a confirmation. I'd reserve the room early. Number of trucks is unlimited. So is the wait times on some trails at times... ;-)
