Man turns Ford F150 into Hummer H1

I did something similar for some investors trying to get in on the Hummer market pre H2. I built one on a brand new F-350 chassis with a 7.3 powerstroke that now resides somewhere in Florida, I cruised all over the USA with it and it was great. The rest were based off of a GM 3/4 ton chassis, all aluminum body, 37's, EFI 383's, all power accessories and A/C, very nice interiors. You can see pics around the web if you look up Catvee, you'll probably find out why they are no longer around either (the bad stuff) I was the designer/builder for them.

Those look nice! I actually looked seriously at doing the same kind of company, after I sold my hot rod shop. Why didnt it work out?

I think for the most part the major investors were not willing to let the company twist and turn down the path the market was dictating, a little bit of tunnel vision. That's enough info on a forum though.

The units that were completed were expensive, all powder coated frames and driveline components, all new driveline components, CAD designed fully welded aluminum bodies that could and did take an absolute beating, all molded interior panels that were very nice, etc. They were designed to be production built from the get go so there was a lot of money in development, molds, etc. I started selling them in kit form and they were still on the pricey side but there was absolutely no comparison to any other kit, hell there is still no comparison as far as a kit Hummer goes. All components were FMVSS complant which is a pile of work to develop and document. In all there were 4 4 doors, 4 wagons, 2 2 door pick ups completely built and 6 kits sold. They are in various locations in Canada and USA.

Performance wise a 4 door pick up weighed 4600 pounds soaking wet so a 300 HP engine provided good motivation! I did some military trials in Abu Dhabi in 2000, we passed all the crap the Emirates could put it through and that is severe. Any body who has been in the Emirates or Kuwait can expand on the completely insane drivers over there! Any servicemen who have had to deal within the military there can expand on the mass disorganization and chaos within! A great experience, but I was never happier to get the hell out of a country.

That adventure is worthy of a few cold ones one day.

Cheers,
Mark

I saw a clone running around Turkey that was kinda cool. IIRC it was badged as a HumMog, and had Mog portals under it.
