I think will try it your way first. Gonna try and get the tent on next week, just finished up mounting the Baja Rack. It actually has a lot more wind noise than I was expecting, may try moving it forward or back more.

FireGuy, I have the wind deflector of the rack in line with the windshield and found that this position works best. Lets see more pics of your LC as well.

Great thread. It was a good read this morning with a hot cop of java as the snow falls outside this morning, while looking at your beautiful pictures of sun and sand :) I need to start writing my own build thread for my 80 series.

Here are a couple quick shots. Need to get a build thread going.

Dang straight you guys need to get a build thread going. FireGuy, Very nice LC you've got there. How do you like your RadFlo's? I'd like to get some external reservoirs as well.

Speski Off-Road Cargo Barrier

With the amount of gear carried in the cargo area during our last outing we concluded a couple of things. One being our boys weren't protected from objects and gear in the back, certain essential items weren't easily or readily accessible, and our storage situation still needs work. The accessibility and storage problems will be addressed later, but for now we are protected from the cargo compartment.
With a little search over on MUD found Corbets thread on The Speski Off-Road Cargo Barrier. This was exactly what we were looking for and within a couple of days the barrier was at our door. The transaction was seamless... Thanks Corbet. Install was very straight forward and quick... nice to see product come together so smooth. This barrier is SOLID just like our LCs and compliments our interior with that Expo look, all while serving a real purpose... Nice :)

I have one of those high on my list as well. I'm tying to decide if I should make one myself or get Corbets one.

I had hopped to tie mine if I make it onto the rear storage system I have envisioned. It would include an upper shelf and partition to keep items from falling on and behind the fridge. I need to make a rear bumper and swing out (get the 35" spare out of the back) first though so its a ways off still.

How is your hi-lift attached there? Looks like it would be a hell of a projectile in a front end collision.

I am really pleased with Corbets barrier. The attention to detail... such as how the barrier is centered and spaced perfectly, the quality of the hardware provided, and the final fit and finish. I'm really stoked with this latest purchase.
The Hi-Lift does look as though its just resting their, but its attached with five 3/8" wide zip ties. I'm pretty confident that it's not going anywhere. I do have a solution in store for a new location, just waiting on a couple of mounts to arrive.

How much space is in between the two carseats? Do you think you'd be able to mount the two carseats next to each other, ie one driver side and one in the middle? If you could do you think someone could then sit in the passenger side?

gddyap, We have two Britax seats... one booster and one Marathon. The booster requires a shoulder belt, while the Marathon can use either shoulder or lap. The middle seating on the LC is a lap belt. The problem with having the Marathon in the middle is that it would physically require you to climb in to buckle the young one up. We have them on each end so the proper belts are used and for our convenience. The available space between the seats is more than adequate for an adult and still comfortable. So to answer your questions: enough space for an adult (think airline size seat space), yes, and yes. Hope that helps.

That's the info I was looking for. I have one kid in a booster but the baby is still rear facing and the car seat usually has to be in the middle or the front seat has to be moved uncomfortably forward depending on how wide the vehicle is. Thinking of replacing my extended cab Tundra with an 80. I put the booster on the driver side and rear facing seat in the middle. Sometimes we take another person in the passenger side for short trips (<1hr). I might miss the cargo carrying capacity of a pickup bed but will appreciate the enclosed storage and additional passenger space. Just need to convince the wife. She wanted to replace my Tundra with a new Explorer but then decided that continuing to work part time to spend more time with the kids was worth more than a new car. I think I can get an 80 for what I can sell my Tundra for.

Don't forget about the rear jump seats. You could either place a car seat back there or, an additional passenger. Even if you just leave one of the seats in and fold it up when you are done it will allow decent cargo space with an extra seat.

Hi-Lift Mounted

Finding a spot for a 60" Hi-Lift that is accessible and secure can be a bit tricky when you don't have a rear bumper or room on your rack. After having it secured in the interior on the left side of the spare for the last couple months it was time for a more permanent and accessible location. The only other option that I could imagine would be on the front bumper. These mounts appear to be bullet proof and are very light weight. The install was very straight forward and simple... I also taped the contacting surfaces with black electrical tape and thread locked all hardware. I think this is going to work. :ylsmoke:

ChuckB are you back? That's a long time to be out to sea. I bet you're looking forward to finding another cruiser.

Dave I plan on using a Masterlock cable lock for security just need to find one that's not 10 ft long.

I've got a couple more mods/solutions for the LC coming up then I'll be focusing once again more so on the PM side of things.
