May be pulling the trigger on a 2010-2011 4Runner Trail Edition

Is that a spacer lift on it? Not that it matters since you'll be replacing the entire suspension before it gets to your driveway...just curious :D

BKG- Dang man thats some serious coin for 52k on the odo!! I thought CA was bad...toyota rules the marketplace out here but I guess it's worse in TN!

Colonel- haha I wish! I actually really couldn't tell what the lift was. I think its the 3 inch bilstein lift that toytec offers. I remember seeing the toytec symbol and the bilstein shocks underneath. I checked it out after work so was in a suit and didn't want to be on the ground to say the least. If I do get it I'm not sure I would get new suspension. Might as well play with it until something breaks!

I might call the dealer and play around a little and throw some numbers at him. Still not sure about 29k with 52xxx on the odo tho.

There is a 2013 in ATL with 6k miles and MTR'S.. $2K more than list of a 2014.

My wife's 2010 kbb with 80k miles for TN puts it right at $27k. If that trail could be had for $29k, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and sell the wife's 2010. It's crazy how prices vary based on geography. TN is high, TX is lower... MN is lower but comes with rust issues.

If you don't jump on this 4runner - I have permission from the boss to get on a plane. :):):)

Got mine new from Jim Barkley Toyota in Ashevile with six (6) miles on the odometer for $35,870 out the door (with KDSS). Non KDSS models run $34,365 out the door.

I flew up and drove it back down to Miami as the Trails with KDSS in my area retail for over $40k. They have real-time inventory list and quick search shows they have two (2) available right now with three more ready to go by the end of the month.

Jim Barkley also includes an unlimited powertrain warranty (which covers offroading as long as you keep up with maintenance).

I'm not affiliated with them, but I am an extremely satisfied customer.

Super Bump!

Went and test drove a 2016 Trail Premium yesterday and I gotta say I am pretty impressed in just about every aspect but the lack of power! There was a sale at the dealership for 3k off MSRP making it about $38,500 which I thought was a screaming deal. Unfortunately the sale ended yesterday and I was not ready to sign any deal...But definitely into the 4 runners again. I definitely still want one!

2010-2012 4runners can be found for good deals. Be aware they they had some Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) that the newer ones don't have. But the issues don't seem to be widespread, and you should be able to check the vehicle for these issues prior to your purchase.

The Trail's come with locking rear diff, crawl control, manual 4wd shift lever, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and optional KDSS. The ATRAC and the locking rear diff will you get over most terrain with little hassle....so in short, I do think the Trail is worth the extra money over the SR5.

KDSS is a nice-to-have but certainly not required, especially if you are thinking about adding aftermarket suspension upgrades. It does a lot more for on-road performance than off-road performance relative to the non-KDSS 4runners.

The 5th gen 4runner, regardless of trim, is a great all-around vehicle for offroading or just exploring the backcountry. Short of a Jeep Wrangler, it's the most offroad-worthy factory-made SUV you can get here in America. Fully-boxed body on frame. Still made in Japan. Basic, but well-proven 4.0L naturally aspirated engine. As long as you're used to truck-like handling and performance, you won't be disappointed with this choice.

Thanks for your input, Dalko. The problem I am having with the 10-12 runners is when they have 50k on the odo but are still in the low 30's...I'd rather pay a little more and have a brand new one with under 1000 miles...So I'm starting to lean towards brand new. KDSS is nice I guess...but I want one without it. I've heard a lot of stories about them making simple tasks more difficult and it honestly seems a little unnecessary. I like the feel of a truck, too. I have driven nothing but trucks...in fact, if I get a 4R, that will be the first vehicle without a 6 foot bed I've ever owned haha!

Definitely going with the Trail...preferably the Trail premium for all the extra little luxury items it comes with.

One of my favorite things about the 4r is the powere window in the back! Love it.

My least favorite thing about the 4R is the lack in power...I'm used to more cylinders and more HP.

Oh, and just so everyone knows...I am looking for a 2015 or a 2016 now. The title is mis leading, I know. This is my old thread.

Thanks!

I feel like a missionary everytime I bring this up, but I'll give my pitch yet again just for the sake of it:

Buying used gives you the potential to find a good deal and save quite a bit of money. Key word there is potential. The deals aren't always available, nor are they easily found. You need to do your research on how the pricing has been varying by season and geographic location.

I haven't looked for used trails as of late, but a few weeks ago when I looked I found trails with 36k-50k miles going for $29k-$30k. Just for a reference, I bought my own 2011 trail used back in February of 2015 for about $27k (33k miles on the clock).

My advice to you: if you have even the slight interest in buying used, wait until after Christmas to make your purchase. Historically, that's one of the best times for consumers to buy stuff since demand is low and many franchise dealers are under pressure to meet sales quotas during what is normally a very slow quarter. You'll likely find 4runners going for bigger discounts and will have a lot more negotiating power with the salesman.

The deals are out there, you just need to know when and where to look. Buying new has its own merits, especially if you think you might be selling the vehicle within 4-6 years, since the resale value should be pretty decent. If you're thinking of buying for the longterm, a moderately used (20k-40k miles) 4runner trail would be your best bet from a financial perspective.
