May be pulling the trigger on a 2010-2011 4Runner Trail Edition

Almost did it yesterday, Came across this little gem at a dealer right down the street from me.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?ownerId=64873327&searchRadius=0&listingId=373595967

I got them down to 31k plus fees for it.... Very hard decision. It currently has a set of brand new BFG AT's, It has a 3 inch? toytec lift in the front and some bilstein shocks in the back. I believe its the non KDSS version but it did hav navigation which is a big deal for me becaue Ive never had it before so why not?? It was incredibly clean also which was nice and it has some nerf step bars...reason I said no is because it had 52xxx miles on it. I set my limit at 30k with under 40xxx on the odo. After taxes/fees I'd still be in the 33k-34k and I'd be over my mileage limit.

It hurt to turn it down because I know some sucker will come by and buy it for 31-32 but oh well. Wasn't right for me. I feel with that many miles I shouldnt pay more than 29k out the door.

Thoughts?

I'll admit it... I want that 4Runner.

Having said that, a 2014 is only a few grand more.

Yup, IMO not worth getting a used 4runner. For that 4runner in the autotrader ad you will most likely cant haggle much it will be approx $34650 OTD.

A brand new trail with an updated facelift and many cosmetic touches here and there (projector lights, LED tails, No mast antenna, upgraded interior, new restyled gauge cluster, etc) can be had for $35k (seen some people pay even $34kish). Of course $35k is before taxed, but still paying $3-4k more and getting a brand new spanking vehicle is worth it and a small price to pay.

I have to say I like the exterior more of the 2010-2013 4runners and the interior more of the 2014+ 4runners.

I have thought long and hard about this...I contemplated looking at a brand new one but I seriously dislike the front end. To me its just incredibly ugly. I've also looked at some leftover 2013's on some dealer lots but nothing is exactly what I'm looking for.

As much as I want one, and believe me I do as I research them everyday....I still easily have 40k miles left on my truck before she dies so I have some time to find exactly what I want.

I agree 100% on the fish gill front end. Ugh.

Interest rates on a new vehicle versus used may help offset the cost too. I'm not a huge fan of the 2014 front end...but perhaps you could live with it until you replace it with a Shrock

The right one will come. I got an outright Absurd deal on mine back in 2010 when it had 14k miles. I don't think the dealer knew what they had.

Over all liked the 4 runner trail edition when I went shopping for a new truck, but it was the price that turned me away. I got a brand new xterra completely loaded (nav, sat radio, heated seats, locker, hill descent etc) and with leather and a 100k bumper to bumper warranty for a couple thousand less than a used 4runner trail was going to cost me. To get a new 2014 4runner equipped the way my pro4x is would have been about 10-12k more and north of 40 grand. Thats getting to be LR4 territory.

Ive had that truck at arches, in moab, in telluride, and a couple trips in california and its been absolutely great.

I understand the appeal to toyota, but if you arent insistent on the toyota brand, the pro-4x is worth a test drive.

I test drove the Pro-4x a few months back as that was one of my considerations when first wanting a new vehicle. I felt that the inside was a little cramped for me. I felt like it was still the same size as the older generations of X. The 5th gen is the only T4R I like. All the other generations are smaller on the inside. Big improvement on the 5th gen's. And I love the look of the TE and I like the rear roll down window which the Pro-4X doesn't have if I remember correctly.

If the TE's weren't around I would look harder at the Pro-4X. Its a good looking car and the price is right on...brand new for 30k... hell yeah!

the only beef i have with the Xterras is the notoriously fragile front end, which can be fixed - but SD is right; the size of the 5th Gen 4runners is creeping in on 100 Series land cruisers. its a fairly large SUV that is super capable especially when modified. i mean look at it this way- its a Land Cruiser Prado in a different sweater.

The 4runner for sure has more trunk space, and if you really need it, then that is a legitimate concern. Personally, I found the Xterra, especially with a roof rack, had plenty of space for my needs and I welcomes the shorter wheel base and departure angle. SD feels differently, but my wife and I found the passenger compartment more roomy on the X especially with Kiwi's car seat installed.

I'm not sure what you mean about "notoriously fragile front end". Ive read some stories on the xterra forum of a guy who knew a guy who blew a front diff while rock crawling and spinning the front wheel while it was up in the air and then had it slam down. IMO that's an easy fix with a front locker if you need it, but seems like driving sensibly is the easiest answer. I've found that on the Pro model, when the rear locker engaged, the wheel slip control negates the issue completely. If i wanted a 35-37" tire'd rock crawler i would have bought a used jeep....

A rear roll down window is always a nice feature. I wish the X had a roll down rear or a split gate.

What do you guys think? Expensive? Yes. Will they work a deal? Yes. I called and talked to them about it. I'd pay 27k for it...or at least I think I will. Maybe I'm just tired of looking for the right one. Thoughts?

I noticed it has leather seats. Thats an add on option from factory right? I also noticed there is no pic of the overhead controls for the crawl control, etc.

This is the same one I posted earlier.

Funny, the salesman at the dealer I talked to said it will be gone in a few days. Ha, whatever bro. If I can get them down to 29k, do you think this one is worth it?

Give me some honest opinions on my last two posts whether they're good, bad, whatever.

That truck in TN would be $36-38k.

Dammit... Now I'm trying to talk the wife into selling her 2010 for this one. :)
